Trading The SPFL – Weekend 4th August

Trading Scottish football every week with Scottish Football Tips

Hello readers. Welcome to a new season of Scottish Football here at Scottish Football Tips!

Everyone here has been working hard on updating ratings, squads and keeping abreast of every possible development across the leagues during pre-season and the league cup campaign. Early stages of the league season are always a slightly trappy affair. Stakes can do with being reduced so make sure to bear that in mind when looking at this weekend’s selections and the relative strength of support they are given. We will learn plenty over the coming month or so – questions over who will be starting and what the formation will be are on the verge of being answered.

Saturday still presents us with a couple of opportunities to get going though. In the Premiership, Dundee remain slight value at 2.09 on the Asian Handicap (0.00) which is the same market as Draw No Bet, available at 2.05 with various firms. St Mirren look a little short on quality to me, and even though Dundee are no world beaters themselves it is safe to say they have the better overall squad than the Paisley side. I make Dundee favourites to get the win here so the slight odds against in the market we are focusing on is decent value.

In League One, the 8/5 available on Forfar at home to Airdrieonians is worthy of a small interest. The Loons have made some decent signings and are a side that have really impressed me in pre-season. Airdrieonains have been no slouches themselves in the transfer market, a few of the players will certainly improve upon the squad last season, but I’d be slightly concerned that they don’t have quality all over the pitch to get themselves towards the top end of the table.

Another side that I am a big fan of is Arbroath. They have a squad that could see them go very close to the title in my opinion. Goals from everywhere and a reliable backline, all commanded by the bold Dick Campbell. Montrose are the opponents on gameweek one, and they too are a decent side that will take to this league quite well. They don’t have the firepower to live with Arbroath though and quotes of 5/6 or bigger should be snapped up.

These three trades should hopefully see a successful beginning to what is sure to be another profitable year.

Good luck with your bets!
