Trading The SPFL W/E 26-27th August

Last week we recorded a very slight loss on the three advised trades. It was all looking so rosy at the end of the first half, but that’s the breaks.

We again found ourselves on the right side of the value with Clyde shortening up a fair bit from the 11/5 advised to around the 15/8 mark at kick off and Stirling Albion proved solid winners for us at 5/6.

This week we have sourced some very early value in League Two so the post will be split into different parts – best to achieve maximum value, rather than having to settle for lesser value later in the week.

Stenhousemuir travel to Clyde and are overpriced (best 21/10) to win the match. They have made a steady start to the season, but a convincing 3-1 win over title favourites Peterhead at the weekend should give them real confidence. The forward pairing of McGuigan and Longworth is bedding in well and it was positive to see them both on the scoresheet on Saturday. Clyde, as we have mentioned before have the best player in the league in David Goodwillie – they do pose a serious threat going forward, but their defensive play leaves a huge amount to be desired. There’s no better way to demonstrate this that by looking at their collapse against a poor Elgin side, losing 3-2 from leading 2-0.

The best bet for us here is Stenhousemuir Draw No Bet at 5/4.

There is also some value to again side with Stirling Albion this week in their clash away to the Blue Toon. Stirling have been the most impressive side in the league for me and have a manager who looks like he might well go on to bigger and better things in the game in Dave Mackay. Peterhead have been priced up as short as 1.67 in places – this is incorrectly noting the chances of a home win and we can look to the double chance market at this point where Stirling Albion are priced at 2.10 presently.

One other positive piece of news for this trade is that Peterhead could be without Rory McAllister again, but even if the talismanic striker does recover from a hamstring injury, the prices on offer are attractive.

Following on from the earlier post –

In League One there are two more trades waiting for us. Forfar have started the season much better than their results might suggest. They have created chances in all their matches and will be able to follow a similar pattern against Albion Rovers. Rovers are another side that are playing slightly better than their results also indicate, but the 1.91 available on Forfar on the draw no bet market should be snapped up.

It’s once again the Draw No Bet market that comes into play with our second trade – Stranraer away to Queens Park. Queens put up a bit of a better show against Alloa on Saturday, but in truth it was a turgid match and will have done little to allay the fears of Spiders fans after two defeats (and insipid displays) from their two encounters in the league previous to that. Stranraer have had a bit of a bumpy start to the season, but have some real quality about them – especially with Ryan Wallace who is now starting to find his feet – and I predict will be challenging for the playoffs come the business end of the season. They are a strong side and should have enough of a ‘bullying’ quality about them to go to Hampden and put on a good show, looking to come away with the win.

In the Championship, high flying Dunfermline travel to The Rock to take on Dumbarton. A tricky venue on occasion for most teams at Championship level, but the 5/4 available with MarathonBet (or 6/5 available elsewhere if you struggle to get more than a couple of pennies on with the shirt-sponsors of Hibernian) is a touch big and something that is worth a middling level of interest in.
