Stranraer v Ayr Utd Betting Preview

Ladbrokes Scottish Championship Playoff Final 1st leg

The script writers must have been on holiday because you couldn’t have written this one.

Stranraer were bottom of the table at Christmas and are now on the cusp of promotion to the Championship. There is the small matter of an excellent Ayr Utd side to overcome but even being in the hunt is one hell of an achievement.

Throw the local rivalry into the mix and that the Stranraer manager, Brian Reid, is a former Ayr manager and you have all the ingredients for a blockbuster. Meanwhile, both sides love goals at either end with twenty goals between them in the playoff semi-finals.

Stranraer are on an excellent run with eight wins in their last nine home matches and their semi final victory over Livingston should be given huge credit. Ayr Utd have one of the best squads in the league with a forward line to be feared by any team in this division.

The Honest Men have scored four goals in each of their last three away games and the head to head stats show they have had the best of it. They have won three and lost one of the four match ups this season and can be confident of doing so again.

Stranraer’s advantage is their settled side that sees them with the second highest points tally in 2016. Only Dunfermline have amassed more points than them with their home form key to their progression. It would be foolish if not dangerous to discount them.

Stranraer v Ayr Utd Betting Preview Best Betting Odds

Ayr Utd are uneasy favourites at a best priced 2.56 (14/9) with Marathon Bet. Stranraer can be backed at a high looking 2.9 (19/10) with William Hill while the draw is best priced at 3.8 (14/5) with bet365, Skybet and Paddy Power.

Goals could be fruitful with both teams to score at 1.67 (4/6) with bet365. You can get the same price for +2.5 goals from bet365, McBookie and Coral.

Both of those prices have been drifting and could be worth keeping an eye on. If either drifts out towards 1.75 it becomes a real goer.
