It’s the last league game of this season for both these sides and represents little opportunity for either of them.
For St Mirren they have one last chance to overtake Morton and Queen Of The South to finish in fifth place. For Rangers it’s one last chance to arrest the poor form that has seen them pick up a single point in their last three league games.
Does either thing really matter in the grand scheme of things? Probably not but both sets of fans would like to bow out on a high. Particularly the Gers fans who must be getting a little anxious at how their form has plummeted in the build up to the Scottish Cup final.
Some are suggesting that they may not be able to pick it back up when it comes to the crunch but that wouldn’t worry me. It’s natural for players to hold a little back with a cup final on the horizon. God forbid you pick up an injury at this late stage and miss out on the big day.
It happened to Ross County with their league form plummeting before their League Cup final victory. Thats didn’t stop them from picking up the trophy although to be fair they were up against a Hibs side who had also hit a horrendous slump in form.
The Paisley Saints have nothing more than the beach to look forward to but one last game against Rangers should get their juices flowing. In Steven Thomson’s final game for the club everyone should be looking to give him a decent send off. As we saw from Alloa and Livingston having little to play for shouldn’t matter when taking on this season’s champions.
From a betting point of view we also saw from Livingston and Alloa that we should have been opposing Rangers as soon as the league title was wrapped up and their Scottish Cup final berth was secured. This game also represents one last opportunity for punters to get in on the act.
St Mirren v Rangers Betting Preview Best Betting Odds
Rangers are short favourites but not as short as they might have been four weeks ago at a best priced 1.44 (11/25) with Coral, McBookie and others. St Mirren can be backed at a high price of 7.7 (67/10) with Marathon Bet who are also best price for the draw at 4.8 (19/5).
Backing St Mirren with a +1 handicap at 2.9 (19/10) with Betfair has plenty of appeal while even the +2 handicap price of 1.73 (8/11) can be considered. But it may be worth waiting until the Asian Handicap markets open to see what’s available. Alternatively you could have a wee stab at the draw no bet price of 5.6 (23/5) with Marathon Bet.
St Mirren have become goal crazy of late with nine of their last ten games seeing three or more goals. They will find scoring against Rangers much more difficult of course and whether Rangers turn the goals on is debatable.
That leaves the price for +2.5 goals of 1.64 (7/11) from Marathon Bet a little too short to consider for a single. I will be including it in a final day accumulator featuring other matches from the Championship.
First goalscorer backers should have a look at Stevie Mallan and Lawrence Shankland at 20/1 and 11/1 respectively and both with bet365.
