St Mirren v Queen Of The South Betting Tips And Predictions

Ladbrokes Scottish Championship

Location: Paisley 2021 Stadium

Date: 7th January 2017
Time: 15:00

It took St. Mirren until the sixth of December to record their first win of the season. Their opponent that day – Queen of the South.

The Buddies remain rooted to the bottom of the table despite taking eight points from their last five matches. Those eight points are two thirds of their total of just twelve amassed since the season began. That followed just four points from their first fourteen games, including a run of six straight defeats after Jack Ross took over as manager in October.

Queen of the South meanwhile are without a win in thirteen league matches, but remain in seventh in the table. Ex-Hearts defender Gary Naysmith has been tasked with steadying the ship and took over the reins in December.

Queens had a five-match winning run earlier in the season, propelling them into the play-off places. That included a 3-1 victory against St. Mirren at the Paisley 2021 stadium. However, that run came to an end after another 3-1 win against Raith Rovers in September. Since then, Queens have picked up just five points, all draws, although three of those have come in the last five matches.

Another indication of just how competitive the middle of this league is can be taken from the fact that the Doonhamers are just six points off Falkirk in fourth. A couple of wins can propel anyone up the table.

St. Mirren, of course, were a Premiership side as recently as season 2014/15, and will be desperate to avoid another relegation. Queens on the other hand, can be a tricky opponent for anyone on their day. They are typically a solid mid-table Championship outfit however, and that is about as far as their ambitions stretch.

This could be won by the odd goal by the team that shows the most desire.

St. Mirren are 2.60 (8/5) with betway for the win. Queens can be backed at 2.86 (93/50) with Marathon Bet, who are also best for the draw at 3.40 (12/5).

BTTS is 1.73 (8/11) with Betfair. Understandable given that we have two of the league’s worst defences on show. However, neither side is exactly prolific at the other end, so I feel that at 2.15 (23/20) with Marathon Bet, BTTS No is worth a shout.

The last 3 matches between the sides have seen Over 2.5 goals. In fact, the last two have gone over 3.5. That makes Over 2.5 goals seem fairly attractive at 2.00 (Evens) with Marathon Bet. However, with Under 2.5 at 1.91 (10/11) it’s too close to call and I would steer clear.

With St. Mirren having lost just once in their last five matches, the Buddies are on the up. The Doonhamers have picked up just a solitary point from their last five matches, so the form book strongly suggests a home win.

At 2.60 (8/5) with betway, this looks like decent value to me, so I’ll be backing the Buddies to take all three points.

Goals Stats

Both teams have scored in five out St. Mirren’s last six matches. However at home, this has happened in just 2 of the last 6 – 50% for the season as a whole.

Queens haven’t scored in their last two outings, but prior to that recorded two goals in three consecutive matches.

St. Mirren have only recorded one clean sheet at home all season.

Queen of the South have drawn a blank in five of their last six away matches.

Head To Head Stats

The last three meetings have seen both teams score.

Both of this season’s previous meetings were won by the away side.

In total, St. Mirren have 14 wins to Queens’ 8. There have been only 5 draws in 27 meetings.
