The Highland’s is a hotbed of Scottish football with both cups now resting either side of  The Moray Firth.

Do you know what else it’s a hotbed of? Hangovers. The town of Dingwall emptied on Sunday as almost ten thousand Ross County fans travelled to Glasgow to watch their heroes win the Scottish League Cup.

Most will have made their way back and enjoyed a few libations on the way or certainly when they made it home. Will this have included the team? The professional players who have a game to face up to on Wednesday?

You bet your life it did. For most of them this is the pinnacle of their careers and I am pretty sure they took the opportunity to go out and make the most of it. It will be impossible to walk around Dingwall right now and not get caught up in the emotion.

That leaves Wednesday night’s match looking like a difficult encounter against a team who will be only too delighted to bring them back down to earth. A St Johnstone win will see them jump back into fourth place, a spot they probably feel is rightly theirs over the season.

Do you think they are going to show Ross County too much respect because they have been recently crowned as champions? No, neither do I. The players should revel in the chance to knock them off their perch and with a carrot at the end of it they should have the physical reserves to do it.

There is another school of thought that will say The Staggies are on a high and that the League Cup win will carry them on. It has legs, of course, but it’s not one that I am buying.

St Johnstone v Ross County Betting Preview Betting Odds

I am amazed that the price on St Johnstone has lengthened out to a best 2.58 (19/12) with Marathon Bet.  Ross County are now best priced at 2.88 (15/8) with Boylesports while the draw is available at 3.5 (5/2) also with Boylesports.

Being St Johnstone, who aren’t in the best of form, it may be prudent to take Draw No Bet insurance, available at 1.87 (13/15) with Marathon Bet.

Both teams to score is incredibly short at 1.62 (8/13) with bet365 and Boylesports while +2.5 goals comes in at 1.8 (4/5) with Boylesports.
