It’s a shame the season has been wrapped up because St Johnstone could have put a nervy Celtic to the test.

As it stands the most intriguing element to this game could be whether Leigh Griffiths can bag his fortieth goal of an outstanding season. The Perth Saints are also looking to cement fourth place to finish another outstanding season of their own.

With their final game away to Hearts they might just target this match as the one to pick up the point they need to seal it. They certainly have the form with three wins from three since the top six split so if Celtic down tools at all they could have a hard time of it.

But Celtic looked in fine fettle in the first sixty minutes of Sunday’s game against Aberdeen. Defensive lapses took the shine off that performance but with the pressure off they could just as easily turn it on again as not show up.

That is the inherent danger of end of season games with no real meaning attached to them. It’s impossible to ascertain what kind of attitude either set of players are going to show up with. Will this lead to goals or drab affairs short of chances?

They could go either way and who knows what kind of selections both managers will field? Both sides could field youngsters to give them a taste of Premiership action and that could affect everything from win chances to goal production.

St Johnstone v Celtic Betting Preview Best Betting Odds

Celtic are priced up at a best 1.5 (1/2) with Coral and William Hill to win the match. St Johnstone can be backed at a high of 7.5 (13/2) with Marathon bet while the draw is available at 4/1 with Paddy Power.

Both teams to score looks short at a best 1.8 (4/5) with Coral while +2.5 goals has little appeal at 1.6 (3/5) with bet365, Coral and Betfair.

One player who you can guarantee will be going all out to get something from the game is Leigh Griffiths who surely won’t be rested with a big milestone within reach.

This game is his last chance but he is incredibly short at 1.62 (8/13) with a number of firms on the anytime goalscorer market.
