With no chance to reach the top of the table this week The Dons might be in with a chance of winning this one.

Celtic’s last minute winner against Thistle means a win for The Dandies in Perth will still leave them in second on goal difference. Given their seeming reluctance to overtake Celtic when presented with the opportunity twice in recent weeks that might be no bad thing.

They certainly couldn’t be meeting The Perth Saints at a better time with Tommy Wright’s side having failed to score in their last three matches. That’s an amazing stat considering their early season form and not many saw it coming.

With their defensive concerns still worrying them Aberdeen could be fancied to turn them over on Sunday afternoon but their betting odds seem a tad short. Despite winning two away games on the spin their most recent games have been two draws showing that they are still plagued by inconsistency.

Fatigue could be an issue with Niall McGinn and Johnny Hayes in particular looking off the boil. If they can click again they should cause The Saints defence plenty of problems but chief to their chances will be Adam Rooney who drew a blank for the first time in eight games on Wednesday.

There have been calls to see him included in the Irish squad for the European Championships and that must be on his own mind as he strives to continue in good form. While his team have faltered in attempting to overtake Celtic he has shown none of their reticence in trying to climb the goal scorers charts.

Leigh Griffiths is one goal clear courtesy of his goal on Saturday for Celtic but Rooney will likely be champing at the bit to get back on terms. If Aberdeen are to win here they will likely have to really on their top screr poaching a goal.

Tommy Wright has seen his side falter of late and will hope to reverse their form for this St Johnstone v Aberdeen betting preview from the scottish premiership

Aberdeen’s inconsistency means a best price of 2.2 (6/5) with Betfair, Coral and Skybet seems just a little short to be backable. The home side could be worth looking at priced at 3.6 (13/5) with McBookie. Given that the weather is expected to be uncompromising backing a draw at 3.5 (5/2) with Betfair, McBookie and Paddy Power is not out of the question.

Saint Johnstone have had a tendency to concede first so backing Aberdeen to score first at 1.8 with Skybet could be the best bet to be on. Adam Rooney could be the man to break the deadlock and is available at 5.5 (9/2) with Paddy Power to score first. It may be more prudent to back him to score anytime at 2.45 (29/20) with McBookie
