The Scottish Even Money Double is a proven winner across multiple seasons. Selections can be taken from across the whole of Scottish football

Scottish Even Money Double Preview

After a great start to 2019 we have struggled to continue that winning feeling. It's now doubtful we can get enough of a winning run together to finish the season in profit no matter how small.

It would be the first time the EMD failed to turn a profit over the course of a season and we will need to look long and hard at what went wrong. Although it could be just a case of falling on the wrong side of variance over an extended period.

I still maintain a lot of faith in the selection long term and sticking a run of four or five wins together is not out of the question.  Anyway onto this weekend. We must carry on regardless.

Scottish Even Money Double Selection 1 - Elgin City v Queens Park +0.5 FIRST HALF GOALS

The League Two kings for first half goals face off on Saturday and this is impossible to resist. Although most sides in League Two have been prolific for first half goals there is nobody else I would rather look to, other than Berwick Rangers.

Fourteen of City's last fifteen games have delivered a goal in the first half. I have mentioned their defensive problems often enough to not have to indulge again while their 3-3 draw with Edinburgh City last weekend proves they remain an attacking force.

The first goal could come from either side here but it's worth pointing out a few of my observations around Queens Park.

The Spiders were on a terrible run of form almost since Gus McPherson left the manager's position. Ten games without a win must have had Mark Roberts questioning his own position.

But they suddenly turned in a strong performance at a resurgent Stirling Albion. A game they were very unfortunate not to win. They then followed that up with last weekend's record breaking 7-1 win over Berwick Rangers. Sure, they were up against ten men but already 3-0 up before The Wee Rangers' man was sent off.

Nothing much has changed at Queens Park, certainly not in terms of personnel. But it appears that something has clicked. You don't suddenly turn in two performances of the highest quality out of the blue. They must have been building up to it.

They are creating chances galore with 42 shots on goal in the last two games, 28 of them on target (and most of them from the Stirling Albion game). We hope that kind of form continues and right from the get go.

Scottish Even Money Double Selection 2 - RANGERS (-1 HANDICAP) v St Mirren

St Mirren blew their best chance of picking up some points for a while last weekend. Letting a 1-0 home lead slip to a Hibs side in turmoil is basically unforgivable. And this will be their fourth match in five against sides from the top six.

Next up is Motherwell, who have found some form, then it's Aberdeen and Hearts away. In fact there is little respite on the horizon until they host Dundee way at the very tail end of March who by then may have turned their own season around.

Add in needing to blend in a near whole team of new signings and The Buddies' future appears even bleaker.

Meanwhile Rangers looked near their best in a commendable 0-3 win at Livingston last weekend. Steven Gerrard appears to have learned from his shoehorning mistake against Killie and returned to the 4-2-3-1 formation that has served them well.

Much lauded signings Defoe and Davis look like they will have to earn their place. Unless they lose Morelos before Saturday. But even then the home side have more than enough at hand to comfortably take care of a St Mirren side who couldn't even manage a shot on target in their recent 4-0 defeat at Celtic.
