Scottish Even Money Double Preview

Another winner last week makes it two from two for the even money double in 2019. I am also very confident of following that up this weekend. So much so I am taking the unprecedented move of increasing the advised stake to 3% of bankroll for this weekend.

It's the first time we have done this for the EMD which has been based on a premise of level stakes throughout it's history. But this weekend has value and potential attached.

Scottish Even Money Double Selection 1 - ABERDEEN (-1 HANDICAP) v Stenhousemuir

A home tie against a side who have not reacted well to a change of manager after club stalwart Colin McMenamin took over the reins.

While Russel Dingwall appears to be a good signing for Stenhousemuir he made his debut in last week's 1-4 (going on 1-6) tanking off Arbroath. They also couldn't fill the subs bench with first choice keeper Graeme Smith absent with an injury. So more than Dingwall required.

Meanwhile Aberdeen have been in superb form with Celtic the only side they have failed to beat in their last six matches. And that was a seven goal thriller over Christmas.

Sam Cosgrove has found his feet and suddenly looks to have a lot of potential. While May and Wilson may not have set the heather alight they are so far above the level of Stenhousemuir should either of them start they will be fully expecting to get on the scoresheet themselves.

A one goal handicap is the absolute least we should expect here and coming in at 2/5 it's an automatic inclusion.

Scottish Even Money Double Selection 2 - HIBERNIAN (-1 HANDICAP) v Elgin City.

Hibs may well be hosting the side with the worst current defence in the senior leagues. What an opportunity then for Ryan Gauld to make a mark in his first game since signing on loan from Sporting Lisbon.

The former Dundee Utd wonderkid will have the eyes of everyone in Scottish football on him as everyone is keen to see how he has progressed. If that progression is even fairly static he could make a big impression against Elgin City.

Elgin City concede goals as standard in League Two. Cowdenbeath fired four past them last weekend and they join the likes of Stirling Albion and Berwick Rangers as sides who have scored four (at least) times.

Hibs have lost Boyle to injury, a couple to international duty and Ambrose and Hyndman have left the club. But there is still oodles enough quality to take Elgin apart and comfortably.

Add Gauld into the mix who likely will have a point to prove and they won't be short of creativity or finishing prowess. This comes in at 1/2 and is actually a worthwhile bet on it's own.
