Hamilton Accies’ tinkering with their formation has earned them three clean sheets in a row.
It will be interesting to see how this new defensive set up fares against one of the most prolific home goal scorers in the country. Ross County have been outscored at home by Hearts and Celtic and no more. They have scored at least twice against Aberdeen, Falkirk, St Johnstone, Motherwell, Ayr Utd, Dundee Utd, Dundee, Kilmarnock, Accies themselves and Celtic on neutral ground.
Liam Boyce is one of the most prolific strikers in the country and that’s despite him having being out injured for a stretch. Alongside him Craig Curran and Michael Gardyne have scored five and seven league goals respectively. They take some stopping with Hearts the only side to leave Dingwall with a clean sheet in well over a year.
That this clean sheet was recent and on the back of a poor run of form since the Staggies qualified for the League Cup final is something Accies can cling to. That and their own resurgence, at least in a defensive aspect.
Their own lack of goals doesn’t look like something that is troubling Martin Canning. Scoring just two goals in five games is the price you have to pay when you are charged with stopping the rot. He has had to employ an extra defender to do that with Ziggy Gordon moving inside to sweep up the gaps but it has certainly worked in the short term.
Whether it will stand up to the strain of a virulent County attack in Dingwall is another matter entirely.
Ross County v Hamilton Betting Preview Betting Odds
Ross County are strong odds on favourites at a best 1.83 (5/6) with McBookie and Ladbrokes. Hamilton are a high price of 4.75 (15/4) with bet365 while the draw can be backed at 3.8 (14/5) with Skybet and McBookie.
Hamilton’s lack of goals would put me off both teams to score at a best 1.85 (17/20) with 888Sport. Backing over 2.5 goals would also be risky at 1.91 (10/11) with William Hill and Ladbrokes.
Ross County should have enough to win this game but their price is verging on the unbackable. You could instead back them to score +1.5 team goals at 1.91 (10/11) with Ladbrokes and it does have a chance. I have included them in a four-fold from the Scottish football accumulator tips page for a small stake.
Jackson Irvine could also be worth a pop for first goalscorer at 20/1 with Coral for some change.
