Hibernian met Dundee Utd not long ago but THIS match seems to hold more significance.

The previous result was a home win for Dundee Utd and that win gave them the impetus to overtake Hibs at the top of the SPFL Championship. But Saturday’s loss, their first for fifteen matches, saw The Hibees reemerge as leaders and odds on favourites for the title.

Hibs’ win at the weekend came courtesy of an eighty-seventh minute winner from Kris Commons. The Celtic loanee also grabbed an assist for their first goal. Having reunited with his old Celtic manager he could be the difference in this game and the rest of the season.

There is no doubt that Hibs needed extra guile and creativity having dropped points unnecessarily at times. Well they have that in spades now and with Commons on board we should expect them to increase their goal count.

They will also need it against a fierce Dundee Utd backline who have conceded just three goals in their last ten matches. Ray McKinnon has made The Arabs a difficult proposition. Dumbarton besting them on Saturday was the exception that proves that rule.

As a result this is likely to be a tight contest despite Hibernian’s newly found firepower. Although Dundee Utd will need to up their game in one regard. Their goals for column on the road is a sight to behold.

They have scored just twice in their last five away matches. All in all those games have seen a grand total of three measly goals. While that has prevented them from losing matches they are simply not winning enough. Not as much as becoming potential champions would demand.

A win here would leave Hibs in a strong position and it’s one I expect them to hold. Although the value on a home win has evaporated.

Hibernian are favourites at 1.85 (17/20) with McBookie and Coral which now looks a little short. Dundee Utd are available at 4.65 (73/20) with Marathon Bet who are also best price for a draw at 3.65 (53/20).

If you’re intent on backing Hibs it may be worthwhile looking to the correct score markets. A 1-0 or 2-0 win come in at 7.5 (13/2) and 9.5 (17/2) respectively with McBookie.

Both teams to score has little reason to tempt at 1.91 (10/11) with William Hill. Both teams to score NO at 2.0 (evens) with McBookie and Paddy Power looks a better option.

Even at a price of 1.8 (4/5) with Betfair under 2.5 goals holds more appeal. The alternative +2.5 goals bet is available at 2.05 (21/20) with bet365.

With Willie Collum officiating it may be worth looking to William Hill for a price of 4.33 (100/30) for a red card. He certainly loves to make an impact in big matches. And with the ground sold out there promises to be a raucous atmosphere.
