Hibernian will head into the Scottish Cup semi final in buoyant mood after wrapping up the Scottish Championship title last weekend.

They have every reason to be confident. They are the current champions after all. The fact they have plied their trade in Scotland’s second tier this season shouldn’t fool you, either. They are every inch a Scottish Premiership top six side.

Most of all Neil Lennon will lead his charges onto the Hampden Park turf with nothing to lose. Every objective for this season is achieved. Sure, retaining the old trophy will have crossed everyone’s minds but it most certainly wasn’t a measure of success.

They may have to wait for at least one more year to do that. This Aberdeen side are as strong as they have been in the last few years. Mind, they have received a lot of plaudits in the last two seasons, too. While the personnel hasn’t changed much, at least in the first eleven, their performances have continued to go up a notch.

The run of form is unheralded since the folkloric days when Alex Ferguson was at the helm. But there is more to this side than winning games. This current Dons side dominate teams. As a result they dominate matches and more often than not come out the winning side.

Even the two games in their last thirteen they failed to win they were dominant. Against Hamilton nothing short of divine intervention saw them drop points. Against Rangers even the most optimistic Gers fan feared the worst ticking into eighty minutes.

Those results may suggest a soft underbelly and for sure they have been prone to occasional defensive calamity. But they have been the exception that proves the rule. This Aberdeen side are solid. Physically and mentally as their bounce back from those defeats shows.

Buses on Leith Walk may come in twos but Hibs may find this bus packed out.

We have just missed getting Aberdeen at odds against. Which is a shame because that represented a little value to the punter. As they head into odds on and as low 1.83 (5/6) that value is hard to argue the case for. But I would still be just about interested at 1.99 (99/100) available in places.

Hibs will be a hard team to beat, no doubt, but taking them to win would require a better price than the 4.2 (16/5) currently available. A draw holds a hint of potential at 3.7 (27/10).

Backing Hibernian to qualify at 2.75 (7/4) could be a better bet. If they take the game to extra time then they have as much chance as Aberdeen at that point.

On the goals markets this has all the hallmarks of a low scoring affair. Under 2.5 goals is also shortening but a price of 1.95 (19/20) should still tempt. Both sides are, for the most part, solid defensively and the occasion should help to limit the goalscoring opportunities.

Both teams to score NO at 2.05 (21/20) is preferred to the alternative.

Head To Head Stats

Hibs beat Aberdeen 2-0 in the League Cup in 2015.

But that was one of only two times they scored against The Dons in 8 head to head matches.
