If you’re willing to back Hearts at heavy odds-on here you need to sit down and re-think your plan of attack.

Of course Hearts are the third best team in the country based on league position and Inverness are fourteen points behind them. At home the Jam Tarts have been beaten by just Aberdeen and Celtic all season and have won four of their last six at Tynie.

So why am I suggesting that backing them as favourites is such a bad thing? Well for starters Caley Thistle are in a good vein of form of their own with just two defeats in their last thirteen games. They went to Aberdeen and claimed a point, beating them convincingly at home, and put it right up to Celtic at Celtic Park even if they did eventually succumb to defeat.

They are likely to put up a good fight here again and while they may eventually lose out on the night they will certainly make Hearts work very hard for a win.

And Hearts have had to work very hard for wins of late. In their last fifteen games they have won just five times, a stat that caught me by surprise. Sure, at home their form is better with four wins from six but delve a little deeper and that’s just six wins from twelve.

That form is good but against one of the better sides in the league who almost always turn it on against the top teams I would be hard pushed to consider anything less than even money. The Inverness price of course is, to a certain extent, inversely proportional.

Hearts v Inverness Betting Preview Betting Odds

At first glance on Sunday Hearts were as low as 1.67 (4/6) but sense is seeing through as they have lengthened to 1.85 (17/20) with McBookie and Ladbrokes. Inverness are now a best priced 4.8 (19/5) with 888Sport while the draw has potential at 3.8 (14/5) with Skybet and McBookie.

Both teams to score can be considered at 1.8 (4/5) with bet365, Coral and Ladbrokes while +2.5 goals has little appeal at 1.85 (17/20) with bet365 and Ladbrokes.

The high price on Inverness does open up the possibility of backing them to score +0.5 team goals at 1.5 (1/2) with Ladbrokes, Coral and Betfair. Doubling this up with Kilmarnock to score +0.5 team goals would pay out at 2.05 (26/25) with the same three firms.
