If Dundee Utd are to escape relegation they will have to continue their winning run against Hamilton Accies on Saturday.
Both sides have arrested poor form by tinkering with their outfield formations. Big Mixu at Dundee Utd is employing his favoured 3-5-2 with Simon Murray partnering Billy McKay up front. Edward Ofere, who was influential for Inverness in the second half of last season, has joined which will give them extra attacking options.
Martin Canning has solidified the Accies defence by employing an extra defender, or at least a deep lying midfielder. 5-4-1 or 4-1-4-1, either way it means less attacking options with Hamilton having to rely on their midfielders supporting an isolated forward. It has worked in the short term with a good 0-1 away win at relegation rivals, Kilmarnock. New signing Oumar Diaby could get the nod up front.
Big Mixu’s tinkering has worked a treat for The Terrors with two wins on the spin for the first time this season. Even their 1-4 defeat at the hands of Celtic offered plenty of positives to take into their upcoming matches. Simon Murray has been busy up front and doesn’t like to give defenders a moment to hesitate.
Murray’s tenacity could be vital against a Hamilton backline who have been known to be ponderous. To be fair they have tightened up since their embarrassing defeats to Celtic and Annan Athletic. Two clean sheets in a row suggests they are learning from their mistakes. It also suggests that the goal laden fixture this would have promised to be just a few weeks ago might be less assured on Saturday.
Hamilton v Dundee Utd Betting Preview Betting Odds
Dundee Utd are just about favourites for this one at a best 2.63 (13/8) with Betfred. Accies come in at 2.86 with Marathon Bet while the draw is best priced at 3.5 (5/2) with bet365 and McBookie. It promises to be a tight affair and draw finders could do worse than to look long and hard at this one.
Both teams to score is priced at 1.7 (7/10) with bet365, Boylesports and McBookie and that’s too short for my liking given the tactical changes Hamilton have employed of late. The same applies for +2.5 goals at 1.91 (10/11) with Boylesports.
Dundee Utd could be considered with Draw No Bet insurance by backing them 0.0 Asian Handicap at a best 1.85 (17/20) with McBookie. A better option may be to back Dundee Utd to win by one goal at 4.33 (100/30) with Skybet.
