Hamilton Accies are right at the thin end of the wedge with just one point separating them from the relegation playoff position.

They have the third worst goal difference in the league and after Friday night that could become the second worst. Below them Dundee Utd have, occasionally, picked up wins and Kilmarnock have acted by appointing a new manager. Accies have been on a slide since October and what have they done to arrest it? They have tinkered with their formation.

It worked to begin with as they picked up a few clean sheets and enough points to keep the wolves from the door for now. Then they lost to Ross County, which is no disgrace in itself but losing to Ross County when they were reduced to ten men for half the game is at best disappointing.
If we reach the split with four points separating seventh from eleventh then it is anyone’s guess as to who finishes in the playoff position but Hamilton’s six remaining pre-split games do not augur well. With Celtic, Aberdeen, and three in form teams in Inverness, Partick Thistle and Dundee all to be faced six points could be the most they could hope for.
The upcoming Lanarkshire derby looks like it will carry much more weight than many ever have and you could forgive Martin Canning for looking at Friday night’s game as nothing more than an inconvenience. It’s one to get out of the way with much more important battles on the horizon.
Although, for the most part, that is not how professionals think and Canning’s players have some professional pride to regain after the last meeting between the sides. The 8-1 mauling at Celtic Park will still be raw on the nerves of many and it’s not as if Celtic have a great record at NDP.
They do tend to win but have only covered a handicap in one of their last eight meetings here. Backing Celtic to win convincingly could be a folly given the historical stats.

Hamilton v Celtic Betting Preview Betting Odds

Celtic are too short to consider at a best 1.25 (1/4) with Coral. Hamilton are too unlikely to consider at a best 14/1 with Betfair while the draw is best priced at 7.1 (61/10) with Marathon Bet.

The bet to be on here was Celtic to win at half-time and full-time opening, as it did, at 1.95 (19/20) with McBookie but it is long gone. The best still available is 1.77 (10/13) with 888Sport and that’s a touch on the short side.

Goals backers can get 1.56 (14/25) on +2.5 total goals with Marathon Bet although you could be better plumping for both teams to score at a high of 2.2 (6/5) with William Hill, Coral and bet365. If you have faith in Hamilton scoring, that is, and in truth, I really don’t.

That leaves Celtic To Win To Nil at 1.95 (19/20) with McBookie but that’s like asking me to have faith that a bucket with a hole in it won’t let any water out, even if they have kept a clean sheet in their last three games.
