Dundee Utd v Dundee betting preview

Scottish Premiership

Location: Tannadice

Date: 11th August

Time: 19:45

Had this Dundee Utd v Dundee betting preview been written just a few days ago it may well have had a very different leaning.

Before the weekend’s games Dundee were unbeaten and yet to concede a goal while Dundee Utd were yet to get off the mark.

Since then United have beaten a Motherwell side who impressed away to Inverness and Dundee threw away a 1-0 lead at home to Hearts. Yet if anything, Dundee United have drifted in the betting since those results.

This Dundee Utd v Dundee betting preview has changed a little probably because, as the BBC Scotland football highlights show, The Terrors didn’t have it all their own way against Motherwell. In what was an enthralling game that somehow remained 0-0 until the 84th minute it took an own goal by Loius Laing to break the deadlock.

Motherwell manager, Iain Barraclough, felt aggrieved that his side hadn’t got something from the game. Dundee United’s manager, Jackie McNamara, was effusive in his praise of the result aware that sometimes the rub of the green can go your way.

Meanwhile, Dundee started the match on Saturday without two goal hero from the previous week, Rory Loy, but it didn’t seem to faze them. Kane Hemmings took up the mantle admirably early on and a 1-0 lead could have been 3-0 but for spurned chances by McGowan and Harkins.

But Hearts were just as guilty of missing gilt edged chances and a game that finished with 3 goals could just as easily have ended with 6.

This game did nothing to assuage the notion that Dundee games are going to be goal laden this season and that looks like it should be the way to go again on Tuesday evening.

The home side in this Dundee derby are a best priced 2.37(11/8) with Betfair but that looks a little short given Dundee’s penchant for goals early on.

Many will see the away side backable at 3.3(23/10) with McBookie and Paddy Power but a better option could be with Draw No Bet insurance at 2.4(7/5) with McBookie.

Any game involving Dundee at the moment smacks of goals and even the Dundee Utd game at the weekend should have seen more than two. You can back +2.5 goals at 1.95(19/20) with bet365, McBookie and Boylesports.

Both teams to score is also tempting at 1.78(39/50) with McBookie but the overall goals market has more appeal.

Its certainly hard to argue with Dundee getting on the scoresheet so anyone looking for a goals acca could do worse than to include Dundee +0.5 goals at 1.36(9/25) at Coral, Ladbrokes and Boylesports.

In the first goalscorer markets Charlie Telfer is tempting at 16/1 with Boylesports while Kane Hemmings has most appeal for Dundee at 9.5(17/2) with bet365. Unless Rory Loy recovers from his groin strain then he should be considered.
