Celtic are closing in on a treble of trophies and they should rightly fancy their chances of getting within ninety minutes of it.

The Celts fans are confident and have every right to be. Many will be looking to the first meeting this season when The Hoops meted out a severe beating to their city rivals. But that 5-1 victory has proven to be the exception.

The subsequent three games are a better barometer of what’s likely to occur on Sunday. Rangers kept Celtic to within one goal in the two immediately proceeding the 5-1 game. Most recently they clawed a point away from Celtic Park in a meritorious 1-1 draw.

While Pedro Caixhina has plenty yet to prove he appears, at least, to have brought defensive solidity to the Gers. They have conceded one goal in his first five games. Draws with Motherwell and Kilmarnock disappointed. But most recently they secured wins against Aberdeen and a decent Partick Thistle.

It is perhaps a stretch to suggest Rangers have finally found form good enough to dispose of Celtic. But they have gone eight games without defeat. Their best run for over a year.

However, you must bear in mind that Celtic remain unbeaten domestically. It’s not because they have been lucky. Indeed, but for a truly horrendous refereeing decision last weekend they would be heading into this game with a win.

Since Brendan Rodgers lost his first match to Lincoln Red Imps of Gibraltar Celtic have been remarkable. Players have upped their game by ten, fifteen, twenty percent under the Irish man. In the case of Stuart Armstrong and James Forrest you could argue one hundred percent improvement.

They have a full compliment, too. Most notably last week saw the return of Tom Rogic. Although it’s perhaps too soon for him to return to the sparkling form he exhibited earlier in the season.

Celtic are deservedly short favourites at a best price of 1.53 (8/15) although that price may yet drift. There was a suggestion of them being priced as high as 1.67 (4/6) but that turned out to be erroneous. If they do drift to anything like that it is an opportunity not to be missed.

As it stands the price of 8.0 (7/1) on a Rangers victory should get you thinking. Although much like the Hibernian v Aberdeen preview you may be better served looking at them to qualify at 4.5 (7/2).

Given the most recent encounters and the stronger defensive make up of Rangers under Caixhina the unders markets hold some appeal. Under 2.5 goals at 2.35 (27/20) could be the best value available. Acca backers should like the look of under 3.5 goals at 1.52 (13/25). Meanwhile both teams to score has got a chance and is worth considering at 1.85 (17/20).
