Celtic v Monchengladbach Betting Tips And Predictions

UEFA Champions League

Location: Celtic Park

Date: 18th October 2016
Time: 19:45
Live on BT Sport Europe

It's a familiar story with Celtic in the Champions League.

On paper they should have little chance against the Bundesliga's Champions League representatives. But the same thought process applied for the game against Man City and many others before them.

When Man City came to town they had won every contest taken on. They left Celtic Park with their tail between their legs and their season has  been on rocky ground ever since.

Most of Europe's leading lights have fallen foul of Celtic Park in the past. Barcelona, Man Utd, Juventus... All names that trip off the tongue. All tripped up by the raucous atmosphere in Glasgow's East End.

Despite what logic dictates. Despite what conclusions are drawn on paper. There is no backing against Celtic on home turf in the Champions League. Particularly in the situation they are facing up to on Wednesday evening.

Borrusia Monchengladbach may have finished as one of Germany’s top four last season. But you would be hard pressed to put them in that league so far this time around. They languish in ninth place with just two wins in their last fifteen Bundesliga away matches.

They will have to reckon without some key players on Wednesday evening, too. Hazard and Raffael are their main goal threat and neither will play. If there’s one thing we know for sure about Celtic Park it is this.

If you fancy your chances of taking anything from the game you are going to have to score at least once. Without your most recognised goal threats you are entering the cauldron on the back foot. And Gladbach might be the only side in the Champions League with a worse away record than Celtic.

I see no reason to go against a home win here.

Monchengladbach are favourites at 2.4 (7/5) with Betfair but drifting fast. Celtic are available at 2/1 with bet365 and others. Marathon Bet are best price for the draw at 3.76 (47/17).

Celtic with Draw No Bet insurance is available at 2.29 (9/7) with Marathon Bet.

Both teams to score does look likely but is incredibly short at 1.53 (8/15) with Ladbrokes and others. With the away side missing so many attacking players backing Both Teams To Score No at 2.7 (17/10) with Betfair can be considered.

Goals backers can get 1.67 (4/6) for +2.5 goals from Skybet and that looks a better option than both teams to score.

Goals Stats

There have been at least three goals in all of Celtic's last five Champions League home games.

And all but one of Gladbach's last five Champions League away matches.
