St Mirren v Partick Thistle betting preview
William Hill Scottish Cup 4th Round
Location: Paisley 20/21 Stadium
Date: 8th January 2016
Thistle are heading into this game with St Mirren as one of the form teams in the country.
They have lost just twice in ten games to Hearts and Celtic and it took Celtic more than ninety minutes to overcome them. That followed the midweek goalless draw away at Aberdeen. In that ten game spell they have played the best teams in the land and have put it up to more or less all of them.
They shocked a top form St Johnstone at the start of the run and took wins from five other games along the way. Kilmarnock, Inverness, Ross County and Dundee Utd all fell victim to an improving Thistle side.
But the real measure of this team are their results at Pittodrie and Celtic Park. Be honest and ask yourself if you ever thought Thistle would go away to those sides back to back and keep a clean sheet for more than one hundred and eighty minutes. No chance.
Yet that’s exactly what they did. Had they held out against Celtic for those final few moments it would have been six away games on the spin without defeat. You’ll forgive me, then, for thinking they have an excellent chance of correcting last weekend’s result, against The Paisley Saints.
The Buddies are still waiting for their first home win of the season save for a 4-0 win over League 1 Dunfermline in The Petrofac Cup. There is some good news with new management team of Alex Rae and David Farrell having won two of their first three games.
But sandwiched in between those wins was a 1-4 mauling by the then managerless and, some would say, hapless Livingston. There is still plenty for the new coaches to work on and overcoming a Premiership side in top form looks very much beyond them.
St Mirren v Partick Thistle Betting Preview
A little value has been missed with the away side already having shortened in the betting from 1.91 (10/11) to a best 1.83 (5/6) with William Hill. St Mirren are available at 4.5 (7/2) with Paddy Power and McBookie while the draw is best priced at 3.8 (14/5) with McBookie and Ladbrokes.
I see no reason to look past the away win in this match and I wouldn’t blame anyone for looking at the handicaps. Thistle -1 is backable at 3.25 (9/4) with 888Sport but you will get an even better price of 3.4 (12/5) by backing them -1.5 Asian Handicap with the same firm.
If you want to play safer you could back them -1 Asian Handicap with stake back insurance should they win by a single goal at 2.6 (8/5) with 888Sport.
