St Johnstone v Inverness Betting Preview
Location: Mc Diarmid Park
Date: 9th March 2016
St Johnstone’s top six place is under serious threat from at least three clubs coming up behind them.
If Inverness Caledonian Thistle win this game by more than two goals they would go above them with a game in hand of The Perth Saints. That could be immaterial if Partick Thistle beat Aberdeen on Tuesday night as they would keep both of them marooned in the bottom six, for now.
That would leave St Johnstone needing at least a point to preserve their top six status and failure to do so could ultimately be disastrous. If their slide which has seen them win just twice in fifteen games continues the threat of relegation becomes a clear and present danger.
As unlikely as it seems by the time they play their next match after Wednesday they could be in ninth place with the gap to eleventh, and the threat of relegation, a mere five points. Tommy Wright could really do with stopping the rot but a Caley Thistle side who have lost just three in fifteen won’t be the easiest team to beat.
None of their upcoming games can be considered easy with Ross County directly after the League Cup final perhaps their best chance of picking up points. By the time they travel to Kilmarnock on the 9th of April it could be a real make or break.
All this gives this game extra importance and makes it a game that St Johnstone should really go all out to win. If that is how they approach the game it could go against the head to head record, a record that suggests goals will be few and far between.
Only three of the last twenty-one meetings have seen more than three goals. All these meetings came in the era with both sides in the Premiership and it’s a stat that really should have some weight to it. The question is whether the need for points will open the game up a little more because the price for goals is helluva tempting.
