If Hibs win their Scottish Championship match on Saturday Rangers will head into this Saint Mirren v Rangers betting preview just five points clear.
That should be enough motivation for them to continue their winning run but in all honesty I wouldn’t fancy backing it at 1.36(9/25) with William Hill.
The Paisley Saints have had an upturn in fortunes of late and suddenly find themselves in the heady heights of 6th in the Scottish Championship table.
Their performance at Ibrox in August deserved more than a 3-1 defeat. Had Steven Thomson converted a penalty late in the 2nd half at least a point looked destined to head along Paisley Road West.
What a difference that could have made to both sides’ seasons so far. As it stands The Gers propelled and The Buddies plummeted but there are signs that things have changed.
Rangers have been unconvincing in all but one (a 0-4 win at Morton) of their last six games. The Saints have lost just once in five and strung two victories together for the first time this season.
That being said it would be an absolute folly to back against Rangers based on two wins over a lower league side and the team bottom of the table.

If you’re feeling particularly foolish you can back Saint Mirren at a price of 10/1 with McBookie. That opens the option of backing them +1 Asian Handicap at 2.75(7/4) with Stanjames. A single goal defeat would see your stake returned in that instance.
I would urge caution in backing Rangers on the handicaps in this one as they have failed to cover even a single goal deficit three times in their last five league games.
Although many will fancy the 3.25(11/5) available for Rangers -2 the bet I am thinking of would naturally make that more difficult.
The Teddy Bears have conceded in six of their ten Championship matches this season. Away from home the opposition have scored in three of their four matches.
Most of that opposition has been weaker than Saint Mirren too who have already notched one against them.
You can back Saint Mirren to score +0.5 team goals at 1.87(20/23) with Coral and that smacks of value and opportunity. Alternatively you could back both teams to score at even money with Coral, William Hill and Betfair.
With Lee Wallace being priced at an unbelievable 25/1 for first goalscorer with McBookie that should also be of interest.
