Saint Mirren v Raith Rovers betting preview
Location: Saint Mirren Park.
Date: 18th September 2015.
Saint Mirren will have designs on a top four finish this season and their poor start won’t diminish those plans just yet. Manager Ian Murray knows he has a quality squad at his disposal and their final position should reflect that.
At the moment that isn’t the case as they languish 3rd from bottom of the Scottish Championship. With players like Thomson, Langfield, Webster, Goodwin and Gow there is a lot of experience at hand and no shortage of young talent.
For that reason it is impossible to back against The Paisley Saints even though the visitors on Friday night should, and will, have every reason to be confident.
Raith’s form might look like a mixed bag with 3 wins and 3 losses but context must be applied. Their losses came against the 3 best teams in the league in Rangers, Hibs and Falkirk.
Their home form will be key for them this season where they have won 5 out of 5 conceding just once to The Premiership’s Hamilton Accies. So make sure you look out for Raith at home in future matches.
Ray McKinnon will be delighted with his start as manager having moved in from Brechin City this season. A measure of his capabilities can be seen in the collapse that Brechin have endured since he left.
Unfortunately for McKinnon and Raith they haven’t managed to emulate that form away from home. They have lost four in a row without scoring but there were extenuating circumstances in who they were playing. The defeat to Stenhousemuir in the Challenge Cup will be seen as little more than unfortunate.
The question we need to ask is can they turn that around against a team that have conceded 10 goals in their 5 home matches this season?

The answer to that question, in my opinion, is that they can certainly trouble Saint Mirren. I think you can ignore their blank goals for column away from home as their home form certainly suggests they have goals in them.
Jon Daly will be getting fitter with every 90 minutes he gets under his belt. His bulk alone is enough to trouble defences at this level but he also knows where the goals are.
Given that all but one of Saint Mirren’s home games have seen +2.5 goals the 1.8(4/5) on offer from Ladbrokes could be worth a small investment. There is definitely a little value to be had in that price.
I would suggest that this bet gets a smaller stake than usual due to the not so encouraging stats. But Raith will start scoring away from home and Saint Mirren have plenty of goals about them too.
