Ian Murray’s time as manager of Saint Mirren is teetering on the brink.
I have to admit that I may have called this one wrong. I placed a lot of faith in Ian Murray to turn the Paisley Saints around but so far he has struggled.
They have, at times, shown signs of improvement but last time out they were shambolic in a 1-4 defeat to Hibernian.
Desperate times call for desperate measures so Alex Miller has been drafted in to assist Murray in his managerial duties. Following escapades in Sweden, Russia and China he brings a wealth of experience that Murray will need to lean on.
The Renfrewshire derby is not for shrinking violets and with The Ton in great form The Buddies will need the likes of Jim Goodwin and Steven Thompson to step up for this one.
Morton have won four of their last five matches, enough to propel them into fourth position in the league and dreaming of a promotion playoff place.
All of those four wins came against teams in the bottom five. With Saint Mirren joint second bottom on points Morton can head into this game with confidence.
Renfrewshire derby wins are few and far between for the Greenock club with just two in the last thirteen meetings. If they are to get one over on their rivals it could be a long time before they get a better chance.
Saint Mirren v Morton Betting Preview Betting Odds
Given the different trajectories of the two clubs it is not that surprising to see Morton priced up as favourites. William Hill have by far the best price at 2.6(8/5) on an away win.
Personally I will be backing both teams to score here at 1.8(4/5) with bet365. Considering both teams have scored in nine of the matches at New Saint Mirren Park this season that looks to represent a little value.
Both teams have also scored in four of Morton’s last six away games. With the derby factor and the must win element for Ian Murray goals could well be on the menu.
Three or more goals in the game pays 1.95(19/20) with bet365 and McBookie and is worth considering.
The first goalscorer markets aren’t fully listed yet but if you can get 20/1+ on Ross Forbes he could be worth a small investment.
