Saint Mirren v Dumbarton Betting Preview
Location: Paisley 2021 Stadium
Date: 20th February 2016
The Paisley Saints appear to have finally found their marching beat under Alex Rae.
While Saint Mirren haven’t been setting the world alight the contrast in their performance and results since Rae took over is startling. Four wins in seven games with three clean sheets and two home wins beats everything that Ian Murray managed in a much longer stint at the club.
He has achieved this through the usual means of new manager bounce, extra determination from players and a bit more organisation from the coaching staff. But he has also added well in the transfer window by bringing genuine talent and experience into the mix.
Last week’s defeat to Queen Of The South was a stumble in their playoff push but it’s not out of the question just yet. A win against Dumbarton won’t lift them up the table but it could close the gap to the playoffs to a mere four points.
It was a defeat to Dumbarton that did for Ian Muray and Stevie Aitken deserves a lot of credit for the job he is doing there. They have lost just three times in their last eleven games and have picked up wins against Livingston, Queens, Alloa and Saint Mirren. But only one of them (Alloa) came away from home.
While Aitken has made the Sons very difficult to beat at home they have found winning on the road just as tough. Goals have been the main problem with none scored in seven of their last ten away games. Christian Nade was signed from Hamilton to alleviate the problem and as luck would have it he is likely to miss out on the trip to Paisley through injury.
That only serves to strengthen the Saint Mirren claims here particularly as Dumbarton may have one eye on their Scottish Cup replay against Dundee on Tuesday.
