Ross County v Hearts Betting Preview
Location: Global Energy Stadium
Date: 10th February 2016
What a difference ten minutes can make and that is all it takes to break thousands of hearts.
With ten minutes left in their Edinburgh derby cup match on Saturday the Jam Tarts were leading 2-0 and seemingly booking their place in the Scottish Cup quarter finals draw.
They should have been coming here higher than the Highlands themselves. Instead there are incriminations, introspection, a difficult replay at Easter Road and a load of injuries to important players. The incriminations and, unbelievably, some finger pointing towards Robbie Nielson, are hard to justify to be fair.
Losing two goals in ten minutes doesn’t suddenly turn you into a poor team. Had they held out the press and their fans would be gushing today and Robbie Nielson’s stock would have risen even higher. I prefer to look at this game with a little more clarity and give the last ten minutes at Tynecastle a little less import than a lot of people might be tempted to.
None of that means I think Hearts are any more likely to win. Their away form of late has left a lot to be desired with four draws and a defeat in their last five away matches. Take the injuries and suspensions into account and Hearts are actually looking rather threadbare heading into this match. Against Ross County who have won twelve of their seventeen home matches this season an away win is hard to justify.
The punters and bookies agree with the prices for a home win and an away win heading in opposite directions this morning. The Staggies are now firm favourites and Hearts are drifting quickly towards 2/1 across the board. The longer their price the more backable they could become but it’s hard to have faith. They did throw away a 2-0 lead in the last ten minutes on Saturday, after all.
Ross County v Hearts Betting Preview Betting Odds
Ross County are still available at 2.7 (17/10) with Skybet but it’s unlikely to remain come kick off on Wednesday. Hearts are now as high as 2.88 (15/8) with McBookie and the current trend could see them lengthen further with the draw a best 3.6 (13/5) with Betfair.
Goals are definitely the way to go in this game with five of Ross County’s last six home games seeing at least four goals (thirty-three in total). Hearts have a couple of 0-0 draws in their recent away games but both of them came after a first half red card.
For there to be three or more goals currently pays 1.95 (19/20) with William Hill and bet365 and that is too hard to ignore given Hearts defensive problems. Both teams to score has lengthened to 1.75 with bet365 and McBookie and looks likely.
