Rangers may have disappointed some by not winning their previous games more comprehensively.
But they have three wins from three games and, most notably, no goals conceded. And that will please Mark Warburton no end.
The defence came in for plenty of criticism last season and even after the first half of the first game against Motherwell. Three clean sheets might suggest that things are heading in the right direction defensively. As welcome as that is it is too early to suggest their frailties are fixed.
The level of opposition faced does leave plenty to be examined. With the exception of Motherwell they are unlikely to face lower ranked teams all season. Annan and East Stirling didn’t offer much of a defensive examination. Motherwell would have scored at least once had they been sharper.
As such it is hard to say how much their defensive organisation has come along. Particularly as they have been mixing and matching the players in the first few games. As it stands it looks as though plenty of sides could still trouble Rangers in that regard.
Stranraer may or may not have that cutting edge. They have signed Cristian Nade who knows a thing or two about scoring at Ibrox. But doing that against the Rangers of two seasons ago with Raith Rovers is on a different plain to the challenge he faces on Monday.
Despite winning their first two games The Blues could do with getting something from this game. Their remaining fixtures are against the two Premiership sides and they will likely need more than one point to have any chance of qualifying.
Although in all likelihood they may have to focus their efforts on the game at home to Motherwell. If The Gers maintain possession as they have in two and a half of their games so far they won’t get many opportunities.
Rangers v Stranraer Betting Preview Best Betting Odds
Rangers are very short favourites to win with a best price of 1.17 (1/6) with Ladbrokes. You can get 17/1 for a Stranraer win with Marathon Bet who are also best price for the draw at 8/1.
On the handicaps you can get 2.0 (evens) with Boylesports for Rangers to win with a -2 handicap.
Both teams to score seems short at 1.75 (3/4) with McBookie. Consequently there may be value about the price of 2.0 (evens) for both teams to score NO with the same firm. The price for +2.5 goals also looks short at 1.25 (1/4) with Ladbrokes. Under 4.5 goals is available at 1.53 (8/15) with McBookie and seems high.
Rangers To Win To Nil at 2.2 (6/5) with McBookie may be as good an option as is available. You could try and sneak some extra value with the correct score markets but considering there is always the potential for Rangers to run riot it may be better not to.
