Rangers v Queen Of The South Betting Tips And Predictions
Betfred Scottish League Cup – Quarter Final
Date: 20th September 2016
Live on BT Sport 1
Rangers and Queen Of The South are two clubs in very different moods.
The issues at Rangers have been well documented. Joey Barton has gone feral and Mark Warburton resembles a man on his last legs.
The draw for the Betfred Cup quarter finals looked rosy for Rangers. A home draw against the second lowest ranked side left in the competition. The Gers had won all but one of their first six competitive fixtures and had only conceded one goal. How things change.
Queen Of The South were playing well. But their 1-3 win over Hibs wasn’t given the credit it deserved. Nor, as it happens, were the seven consecutive wins since. The Championship’s leading lights have all been seen off by The Doonhamers.
Hibs, Falkirk, Raith Rovers and Dundee Utd. None of them have got one over Queens. None of them have kept a clean sheet. They have a +10 goal difference in The Championship and are one of three teams still unbeaten in the whole of the SPFL.
All of the credit is going to Stephen Dobbie and rightly so. Against Hibs he came on early in the second half with his team one goal down.
A goal and an assist later and his team had pulled off a noteworthy shock. Dobbie deserves the plaudits (he really REALLY does) but it’s unfair not to heap praise on the rest of the side who have all played their part.
Derek Lyle has eight goals already this season. Jamie Hamill has solidified the defence. Gavin Skelton, in his first season as a first team coach in Scotland, has gelled the team together fantastically. This will not be an easy game for Rangers.
Particularly when you take the head to head stats into account. Queen Of The South have scored in all but one of their last ten games against The Gers.
Rangers v Queen Of The South Betting Tips And Predictions – Best Betting Odds
Rangers are no better than 1.29 (2/7) with William Hill. That represents a drift but will need to drift more to get any traction. Queen Of The South are available at 11/1 with Coral and William Hill. McBookie are best price for the draw at 6.5 (11/2).
Backing Queen Of The South to score +0.5 team goals is available at 1.91 (10/11) with Coral. That’s a price that looks likely to shorten. Given their form it’s a bet I can’t resist.
Both teams to score is priced at even money with Ladbrokes and can be considered but it’s not for me.
The value certainly appears to be with Queens for the time being. Handicap backers should consider taking them on with a +2 handicap at 2.2 (6/5) with Skybet.
