Rangers proved their Premiership credentials with a devastating 4-0 victory over Dundee in the Scottish Cup.
The in form Tayside team were blown away after a mere thirteen seconds as The Gers went on to cover a handicap for just the second time in nine matches. Not many saw that result and performance coming with most commentators, myself included, pointing to Dundee for the value.
Meanwhile Morton were heading out of the cup themselves as they failed to repeat the feat of their last appearance at Celtic Park. As the only team to take any points from Ibrox this season the chances are that’s another feat destined not to be repeated.
Despite Rangers’ good win and despite their continued good form in the Championship it’s still difficult to consider backing them on the handicaps. Particularly as there is a danger that complacency could creep in to the side.
The league is all but wrapped up so most eyes will be focusing on Hampden and the Scottish Cup semi-final against Celtic. The last thing they will want to do is take their eye of the ball as keeping their winning run going could be crucial to their chances of winning against the Premiership champions.
But it is natural for players to project forward when there is a big prize on the horizon. With all the media attention that the semi-final is already generating despite being six weeks away they will be in no doubt as to it’s perceived importance.
Rangers v Morton Betting Preview Betting Odds
Rangers are no higher than the 1.2 (1/5) available from Ladbrokes. Backing a Morton win would bring big rewards at the 20/1 that Coral are offering while the draw pays a best price of 8.5 (15/2) with Marathon Bet.
The handicaps have no more value either with Rangers -1 no better than 1.57 (4/7) with bet365 and Ladbrokes. Rangers -2 Asian Handicap at even money with McBookie just hasn’t been regular enough to make it worthwhile.
There was plenty of interest in both teams to score after it opened at 2.8 (9/5) with Coral but that was snapped up. The best available now is 2.25 (5/4) with Paddy Power and given Rangers’ clean sheets of late that has little appeal.
