Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership
Date: 24th December 2016
Rangers beat Hamilton last week to record three consecutive victories for the first time this season. Caley Thistle have now gone seven matches without a win. Ibrox would not be top of their list to rectify that.
After months of moaning and groaning at Ibrox, peace and goodwill has broken out after three wins on the spin. The Rangers fans are feeling glad all over for more than one reason.
Extending their winning run to four against ICT and five against St. Johnstone would only increase the feel good factor. The Gers host Celtic on Hogmanay and would once more have reason to believe that they could at least temporarily halt the Hoops juggernaut.
Many have put the Ibrox club’s upturn in form down to manager Mark Warburton’s slight change in style. There is no doubt that in recent wins over Hearts and Aberdeen, the Gers have been much more direct. They are also less likely to be bullied off the ball in recent weeks.
This has been a characteristic typified by striker Joe Garner. The £1.8m hitman has only scored 3 times since his summer switch from Preston North End. However, the Ibrox fans have taken to him for his all action style and no holds barred attitude.
Social media has been full of the Gers fans’ lighthearted attempt to get the striker’s song to Christmas number one. Whether he scores on Saturday or not, you can guarantee that ‘Glad All Over’ will be ringing around a packed Ibrox.
Mark Warburton’s side are unbeaten in 33 matches in all competitions at Ibrox. A 3-1 St Johnstone win in September 2015 was the last time they lost a home match. Inverness are on a horrid run of form and are unlikely to threaten that record.
Richie Foran’s side stopped the rot with successive draws in recent weeks, but still sit just a point off the bottom. Garner and co. will fancy their chances of delivering goals against the league’s worst defence.
RANGERS V INVERNESS BETTING TIPS AND PREDICTIONS BEST BETTING ODDS
Rangers are a best priced 1.50 (1/2) with Stan James. Marathon Bet are best for the draw at 4.65 (73/20) and also for an Inverness win at 8.20 (36/5).
Rangers have scored twice in four of their last five matches. Up against the worst defence in the league, at a packed Ibrox, and on a good run of form, I think they can go at least one better. Sky Bet are offering 2.88 (15/8) on Rangers scoring 3 or more goals and I think this is worth considering.
Rangers have only conceded four goals at Ibrox this season. Four of their five home wins have been to nil. Coral is offering 2.45 (29/20) on the Gers beating Caley Thistle to nil. This too looks to be in with a good shout.
But it’s Christmas, so I’m going to combine the two for bigger odds. Backing Rangers -2.0 on the Asian Handicap is 3.55 (51/20) with Bet365. I think that provides much better value than the other two options and also comes with stake back insurance in the case of a 2-0 or 3-1 Gers win.
Also, after all the press this week it would be remiss of me not to give the price for Joe Garner first goalscorer @ 5.50 (9/2) with Paddy Power, and to score anytime @ 2.43 (10/7) with Unibet.
Rangers’ only clean sheet away from home in the league this season came in Inverness.
The Gers have kept five clean sheets in nine matches at Ibrox.
Caley Thistle have hit the target in 6 of their 9 away games.
Head To Head Stats
Rangers have won the last two meetings 1-0, including this season in Inverness.
Rangers -2.0 Asian Handicap
@ 3.55 (51/20)
