The pressure is on both Rangers and Hibs after Falkirk closed the gap on both of them to three points.
By the time Tuesday’s game has finished they might well have caught one of them or closed the gap on both to a single point. If the Championship title race needed any more shaking up that should really set pulses racing amongst all three sets of fans.
Had you listened to most Scottish football commentators (myself included) just a few short months ago you wouldn’t have seen this coming. Rangers were, supposedly, going to run away with the title and Hibs were stick ons for second place.
Most would have happily awarded third to The Bairns but nobody, and I mean nobody, thought they would turn the new year a mere point behind in the title race. That has a real chance of happening now if Rangers and Hibernian share the spoils on Monday.
The betting still reflects the old beliefs with Rangers 1.33 (1/3) favourites to win the title. Falkirk are as high as 33/1 with bet365. Considering Hibs were 20/1 not long ago and are now into 3.5 (5/2) with William Hill there is an argument for backing them at those betting odds.
If The Gers win on Monday and Falkirk beat Livingston on Tuesday it will bring them level on points with Hibernian and above them on goal difference. After that you’ll be hard pushed to find the price of 9/1 from bet365 on Falkirk winning the league without Rangers.
Meanwhile for this Rangers v Hibernian betting preview there are two teams who have both seen better form. Rangers have won just three of their last six while Hibs needed injury time in their last two outings at home to earn points. That was preceded by a scrappy 0-1 win at Alloa.
Rangers v Hibernian Betting Preview Betting Odds
The Gers are rightly favourites and many would have ploughed into the 1.83 (5/6) quotes from bet365 and Coral not too long ago. But Hibs have proven themselves as worthy title contenders and now many will be enticed by the 4.4 (17/5) from McBookie on an away win.
This could be a good game for the draw finders and McBookie and Ladbrokes both entice with a price of 3.8 (14/5) on the points being shared. Backing Hibs with Draw No Bet insurance pays at 3.2 (11/5) with McBookie.
Goals are expected and both teams to score is short at a best 1.67 (4/6) with Coral, Ladbrokes and McBookie. Were it not for the inclement weather it’s a bet I would be likely to make with +2.5 goals also short at 1.7 (7/10) with McBookie and Coral.
On this occasion I am going to choose to make no bets preferring to enjoy the spectacle.
