William Hill Scottish Cup Final

Nothing short of legendary status awaits the winners of this season’s Scottish Cup final.
For Rangers it will deliver the promised land of European football and for Hibernian it will deliver the longed for Scottish Cup victory. Win or lose it will be the defining moment of both their seasons. Particularly for Hibs and Alan Stubbs who could be exiting stage left as a legend or as a failure and it could all come down to the bounce of a ball.
Rangers have already achieved their number one goal and a Scottish Cup win will always have been looked upon as a bonus. But now that they’re here and future projections are hinging on the promise of European football it’s a game they can’t face up to losing.
The Gers are going to have to take on Hibs from a standing start having not kicked a ball at all, save for a closed doors bounce game against a Tottenham select, in almost three weeks. They haven’t kicked a ball in anger in six weeks having failed to win any of their last four league matches.
Picking themselves up to go full pelt in the Scottish Cup final won’t be an easy task but they will at least be well rested. The same can’t be said for Hibs who have had a mere week’s worth of rest and have an even bigger obstacle to overcome.
The crushing disappointment of losing to Falkirk in the playoff semi-final with what was, quite literally, the last kick of the ball could be too much. That Bob McHugh goal will have haunted the players and staff at Easter Road for days and nights since.
But for both sets of players what more impetus do you need than the chance to win the Scottish Cup and become legends of your time? If they can’t manage to pick themselves up for this then they don’t deserve to be out on the Hampden Park turf.
There is certainly a strong likelihood of goals at both ends with all but one of this season’s five head to head matches seeing both teams score and +2.5 goals. Those five games saw twenty-three goals in total and another goal glut wouldn’t be overly surprising.
The head to head stats also show that Rangers are shading it with three wins to Hibs’ two which both came on their home patch. The chances are that Rangers will shade this one too and you just can’t trust a Hibs side who have struggled to hold on to a lead.
