Rangers can ruin the Falkirk title dream with a win here on Saturday.
After drawing away to Livingston Falkirk find themselves seven points behind the title favourites. By 5pm on Saturday afternoon that could become ten points and you certainly wouldn’t bet against it.
There are a few dangers to consider before you go all out backing The Gers on the handicaps for this match. First, and foremost, the weather could play all kinds of havoc. Storm Gertrude is blowing a hoolie as I type and is set to continue singing right up to kick off on Saturday.
Wind, rain and potentially even snow will have to be dealt with in as uncompromising a manner as a stubborn Falkirk defence. It will make an already difficult task that much harder and will take every ounce of determination the Rangers players can muster.
The same applies to The Bairns, of course. They will be facing a double onslaught of Rangers pressure and the battering ram of the gregarious Gertrude who will be loud and fierce on her whistle stop tour of the four corners of Ibrox.
The team that deals best with the conditions may well come out on top here. Playing well doesn’t matter, as was the case on Monday when Rangers took a 0-2 win back up the road from Greenock.
It wasn’t their best performance but was a hard fought and well earned win and the fans were as happy with it as the 0-6 win at Dumbarton. All credit to Morton who contributed to what was another exhilarating and entertaining football match from Scotland for armchair viewers to applaud.
The hangover from the win is the second-yellow ordering off of Andy Halliday with no chance of appeal. Jason Holt is rumoured to be ready to come back in after missing the game against Morton and that will be a big boost but if he is missing Rangers will be lining up with an unsettled midfield.
Against a Falkirk side with a vibrant young midfield that could be of concern and would certainly give the Bairns something to bite down on.
Rangers v Falkirk Betting Preview Betting Odds
Rangers are priced at a best 1.3 (3/10) with Skybet and Ladbrokes for this match and that will be included in plenty of accas over the weekend. Falkirk are as high as 10/1 with McBookie and Betfair while a draw is best priced at 5/1 with McBookie and Paddy Power.
Where it not for the intruding Gertrude I would be taking a chance on Rangers -1 available at 1.8 (4/5) with Paddy Power. You can also back Rangers -1.5 Asian Handicap at the better price of 1.85 with 888Sport.
Goals still look likely despite the conditions with +2.5 goals landing in all but two of Rangers sixteen home games this season. That suggests there is actually value in the 1.5 (1/2) price for +2.5 goals from Paddy Power, Boylesports, Coral, bet365 and Betfair.
