As the gongs are handed out for performances of the year there will be one notable exclusion.

Raith Rovers manager, Ray McKinnon, has done an exceptional job and it blows my mind that nobody is talking about him. At a club with resources dwarfed even by those of Falkirk he has moulded a side that kept in touch with the best the Championship has to offer.

He has guided them to within eight points of Hibernian and Falkirk and nineteen points clear of Morton in fifth. Hibs, with all their lauded attacking talent, scored seven goals more than the Kirkcaldy side and Falkirk won just one game more.

They picked up more points on the road than Hibernian, the same points as Falkirk and just three less than Rangers. They are top of the Championship form table with four wins and two draws in their last six and have lost once in sixteen league matches.

Raith Rovers should be going toe to toe with Morton, St Mirren and Queens but instead they are going toe to toe with the galacticos of the division. If that doesn’t get you a manager of the year nomination I don’t know what will.

Hardly anyone is contemplating that they might overcome Hibs let alone make it all the way to The Premiership. That’s a difficult ask but they are a side in form and discounting them would be as perilous as backing Hibs.

The Hibees have looked increasingly jaded as the season has worn on. Wednesday will be their fiftieth competitive match of the season and they have another six to overcome if they want to achieve promotion.

In between there is the Scottish Cup final and that will be playing at the back of players’ minds. It’s a huge occasion for Hibs fans who are desperate to end their century long hoodoo.

Squad rotation will be key to any hopes Alan Stubbs has of achieving even one of their aims. If he is not careful that rotation could take it’s toll long before Falkirk or Rangers come into view.

Raith Rovers v Hibernian Betting Preview Best Betting Odds

Hibernian are favourites at a best 1.8 (4/5) with Marathon Bet and that’s a big leap from the 1.55 (11/20) they were for the last game here. Raith Rovers can be backed at a high price of 4.8 (19/5) with Skybet while the draw is best priced at 3.85 (37/13) with Marathon Bet.

Backing Raith Rovers with Draw No Bet insurance has plenty of appeal at 3.5 (5/2) with Skybet even if the head to head stats from this season show Hibs with four wins out of five meetings.

Goals could be the way to go though with twenty-nine goals in Raith’s last seven home games including 3-3 and 2-2 draws against Rangers and Falkirk respectively. Both teams to score certainly looks backable at 1.8 (4/5) with bet365, McBookie and Ladbrokes.

Backing Raith to score +0.5 team goals at 1.5 (1/2) with Boylesports and Ladbrokes has reason to be considered despite Hibs keeping three clean sheets in a row. Raith have scored at least twice in each of their last seven home games and one goal here is far from beyond them.

A price of 1.85 (17/20) with bet365 for +2.5 goals has much less appeal as it’s unlikely that either side will come away with a 3-0 win.
