Queens Park v Clyde Betting Preview
Scottish League 1 Playoff Final 2nd Leg
Location: Hampden Park
Date: 14th May 2016
If at first you don’t succeed try, try and try again.
Queens Park have an edge over Clyde and it’s more than their 3-1 first leg lead.
Tuesday night’s win for The Spiders makes it four wins from five meetings this season. The other result from the head to head stats was a draw here way back in October. They have scored three times as many goals as the Bully Wee in those games, too.
Could it be that the edge they have is in the managerial department? Gus McPherson has oodles of experience at the highest level in Scotland and it should be remembered that Queens park were rock bottom and miles adrift when he took over in January of 2014.
Despite a slow start that consisted of a lot of draws that helped to steady the ship he now boasts a greater than 40% win record which is no mean feat. Last season, his first full season as manager, he led them to the playoff final, losing out narrowly to Stenhousemuir. He is destined to go one better this season and after Tuesday’s win he could do it in some style.
Barry Ferguson has not had the same affect at Clyde. He has invested heavily in players with experience at higher levels but left himself a squad lacking in depth. He will need to try and claw back the deficit on Saturday with a number of suspensions and, in his own words, will have nobody on the bench and is struggling to even work out a team.
Whatever team does surface might struggle to penetrate a Queens Park rearguard that has been near imperious all season. Gus McPherson almost pulled it off last season but after failing he tried again and it looks like The Spider’s web is nearing completion.
