Betfred Scottish League Cup
Location: Balmoor Stadium
Date: 26th July 2016
Dundee have displayed a lot of inconsistency so far.
On Saturday they were trailing to Dumbarton at half-time and the portents were not good. But they showed up in the second half scoring give goals without reply. Greig Stewart was the plunderer in chief scoring a second half hattrick on his first start of the season.
If Dundee turn on that second half performance against Peterhead they will be hard to contain. But that’s a big if. They could just as easily play like the did in the one and half games before then. If that’s the case they could be hard to trust.
Whichever sides shows up Dundee will have to rely on their attackers to do the business. They have looked a little shaky defensively at the start of this season. If there is a lower league side capable of taking advantage of that it is probably Peterhead.
The Blue Toon have held on to most of their stars from last season. The most noteworthy of those is Rory McAllister who is already off the mark. Dithering defences like Dundee’s are the kind of opportunity he loves to capitalise on most of all.
It seems highly likely that Peterhead will trouble the Dundee goal and as such The Dee will need to outscore the home side. It is something they are capable of doing but as it stands I wouldn’t like to bet on it.
