Partick Thistle v Dundee Utd Betting Preview
Date: 30th January 2016
Dundee United were teetering on the brink of a win for a while. When it came, it came in style.
In front of them is a rope ladder that could see them scramble to safety against all the odds and if they play like they did against Kilmarnock they might just have the wherewithal to climb it.
That win has closed the gap to eleven points and the gap to Thistle in eighth place to twelve. Another win would close it to just nine with their next two games against Hamilton and Motherwell, the other two sides in the bottom five.
Four wins in a row seemed unthinkable barely a week ago but now there are prospects of genuine momentum from the Arabs. They are running into Thistle at a good time with an excellent recent run having come to an end with just one win in their last five games.
To be fair to the Jags those five games included a very creditable 0-0 draw away to Aberdeen and an away game to Celtic lost in the last seconds of the game. It is their subsequent home game that will be of most concern when Dundee blitzed them by scoring three goals in the first fifteen minutes.
Goals have always been a problem for Thistle if Kris Doolan isn’t scoring. Very few others are with Doolan and Amoo the only two players to score more than once this season. Their excellent run of four wins in a row coincided with a Doolan purple patch and their recent poor run matches up with Doolan scoring just once in his last six games.
They are hard to beat though with Osmann, Bannigan and Welsh forming a formidable midfield that makes them hard to break down. The question is whether Dundee Utd’s new 3-5-2 formation instigated by Big Mixu will be as effective against a tough Thistle side as it was against a Killie side who looked to have all but given up.

Home advantage gives Thistle the favourites tag here at a best 2.38 (11/8) with McBookie but that’s way too short to garner interest. Dundee Utd look overpriced in my opinion at 3.1 (21/10) with bet365 and Ladbrokes and the draw is available at 3.4 (12/5) with Boylesports.
For my money Dundee Utd should be below the 2/1 mark and, weather permitting, could shorten into 2.75 (7/4) by kick off on Saturday. Backing Utd Draw No Bet would be a safer option and you can get 2.2 (6/5) by backing Dundee Utd 0.0 Asian Handicap with McBookie.
A combination of the weather and Partick Thistle battening down the hatches could result in a lack of goals which accounts for the 2.1 (11/10) available on +2.5 match goals.
