Partick Thistle v Celtic Betting Tips And Predictions
Date: 9th December 2016
Live on BT Sport 1
Celtic head into this fixture off the back of another excellent and improved European performance.
Conventional wisdom suggests matches following European games result in lower performance. But Celtic buck that trend and quite spectacularly.
The Hoops have won all but one of their eight games after Champions League exertions. The only one they failed to win was a 2-2 draw in Inverness. Some statisticians still haven’t recovered from that one.
Although there is a short turnaround for this one. After playing Man City on Tuesday Celtic are back in front of the TV cameras on Friday night. That may present it’s own problems but Brendan Rodgers’ side were immense in extending their winning run last weekend.
They conceded three goals but it’s worth noting the breaking up of their main central defensive partnership on that occasion. Simunovic and Sviatchenko have been in mean form. With Toure back in the side Celtic were less secure defensively.
Simunovic in particular has been injury prone so there is potential for the partnership being broken up again, temporarily, against The Jags. If that turns out to be the case there will be room to consider Thistle getting amongst the goals.
They have scored in seventeen of their twenty matches this season and only St Johnstone have left Firhill without a bloodied nose. In five of the last seven head to heads on home soil they have managed to get in on the act despite all those matches being ultimately fruitless.
There is also the reemergence of fringe players like Gary Mackay-Steven at Celtic. In a tough run of fixtures Rodgers looks certain to utilise the squad at his disposal. We will just have to wait and see if that begins this weekend.
If team news is favourable (Toure, please, thank you) backing Thistle to score might not be the worst move you make this weekend.
PARTICK THISTLE V CELTIC BETTING TIPS AND PREDICTIONS BEST BETTING ODDS
Both teams to score at 2.0 (evens) with Coral is worth considering, team news allowing. But I prefer taking Thistle to score +0.5 team goals at 1.95 (19/20) with Betfair.
Goals backers will need to venture into the +3.5 goals markets to get 2.32 (33/25) from Marathon Bet. Despite last weekend’s result the stats don’t support that as a viable option.
Both teams have scored in 2 of Celtic's last 10 domestic matches.
Both teams have scored in 7 of Thistle's last 10 games.
Head To Head Stats
