Morton v Raith Rovers Betting Preview
Date: 26th March 2016
Raith Rovers are right up there in the Championship form table with only Falkirk and Rangers above them.
Morton are not too far behind them but their promotion playoff hopes are fading fast. Anything but a win for the home side on Saturday all but secures fourth spot for Raith Rovers.
To be fair, even a win for The Ton would still leave them with a lot of work to do. There may, realistically, be more chance of Raith Rovers catching Hibs then anyone catching them.
Ray McKinnon’s Rovers have lost just twice since the January transfer window closed and both of those losses were to Rangers. In that time they have taken a point away from Falkirk and won most recently at home to Hibs.
Six wins in their last eight games is the kind of form that deserves a crack at promotion and the January transfer window was key in making that happen. Two signings in particular have been excelling since joining.
Aidan Connoly from Dundee Utd and Ryan Hardie from Rangers have scored seven goals between them. Mark Stewart also seems to be benefitting from their arrival with five goals in his last eight games.
Their head to head against Morton is excellent, too, with six wins and two draws in the last eight meetings. But there are a few reasons to be wary about backing Raith to beat Morton on Saturday.
Injuries have crept up on them and the afore mentioned Hardy will be a big miss. Panayiotou is also missing and Lewis Toshney is touch and go. Also, despite the midweek win over St Mirren their away form still leaves a lot to be desired.
There will be temptation to look at the price available on Raith and think they must be in with a chance here. It is certainly worth considering but caution may be the best option.
Morton v Raith Rovers Betting Preview Betting Odds
The home side are favourites at a best 2.4 (7/5) with Marathon Bet and that is way too short to consider. Raith can be backed at a best of 2/1 with Skybet and McBookie while the draw is priced at 3.6 (13/5) with Paddy Power and bet365.
Both teams to score could have a chance at 1.73 (8/11) with bet365 but it seems a touch short for my liking. For there to be +2.5 goals is a best 1.85 (17/20) with bet365 and also may be a little shorter than it should be.
