Maribor v Aberdeen Betting Preview

Aberdeen have half a chance of progressing in the Europa League qualifiers.
But they will need a performance that at least matches the victories at Rijeka and Gronigen in the last two campaigns. A goal is the minimum requirement but there is every reason to think they can get it.
The Dons have scored in all but two of their last eight Europa League away games. The first leg saw enough chances to have won the game three times over. On another day Aberdeen could be heading for the second leg with at least a two goal lead.
Conceding a goal to Maribor’s only chance of note in the second half makes it even harder to take. But Johnny Hayes’ late goal was the least they deserved and their performance suggests they are more than capable of doing the minimum required.
They may well decide to target Marko Suler. The big defender was a gibbering wreck at the heart of the Maribor defence in the first leg. He makes Efe Ambrose look like Beckenbauer so Aberdeen would be well served by putting him under pressure from the off.
And they certainly have the personnel to achieve it. Set pieces caused Maribor a litany of problems in the first leg with Rooney and Stockley going close on a few occasions. A slightly better delivery from wide areas could unlock the door.
But it’s defensive solidity that may be the key to Aberdeen’s progression. Familiar weaknesses were the cause of their near downfall last week and they will need to be wary this time around. A big prize awaits if they can keep it tight at the back. Particularly as they look good for at least one goal.
