Kilmarnock v Dundee Betting Preview
Location: Rugby Park
Date: 20th February 2016
The irony that Dundee could lend their city rivals a hand in their relegation escape isn’t lost on many.
If Dundee Utd manage a win at home to Hearts and Dundee win at Kilmarnock the gap between the bottom two would close to ten points. While still big it wouldn’t be insurmountable given the Arabs’ game in hand.
It’s a scenario that some Dundee fans would probably be quite happy to avoid even if it meant losing and endangering their own top six ambitions. It’s the prize of the top six versus the prize of lording it over your biggest rivals for at least a year, if not longer. Either way, plenty of Dundee fans could be quite happy on Saturday, whatever the result.
That’s not how Paul Hartley and his players will see it, though. They’ll be very keen to keep up a good run of form that has seen them win four of their last seven league games. They have scored at least twice in all but a 1-0 defeat at Aberdeen, and an unlucky one at that.
Kane Hemmings has been the tormentor in chief rising to third in the league’s goalscoring charts with fifteen goals, of which twelve have come in his last nine games. His form has been key in their rise to joint fourth place, behind Ross County on goals scored alone.
But what of the fabled new manager bounce that Kilmarnock are presumed to gain from the arrival of Lee Clarke into the fold? While impossible to quantify in any real terms it has plenty of justification anecdotally.
Might it be enough to stall the Dundee attacking juggernaut and drive another nail into Dundee Utd’s relegation coffin? If the improved performances under the temporary stewardship of Lee McCulloch are anything to go by it just might.
Kilmarnock v Dundee Betting Preview Betting Odds
Dundee head here as favourites at a best 2.4 (7/5) with Skybet, Coral and William Hill. That seems a little short and value hunters might be tempted by the 2/1 available on Kilmarnock from bet365 and McBookie. It could also be one for the draw finders at 3.54 (37/16) with Marathon Bet and a stalemate wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest.
Goals could well be in the offing but the prices don’t tempt with both teams to score no better than 1.7 (7/10) with McBookie. For there to be +2.5 total goals is slightly better at 1.91 (10/11) with William Hill and that is worth considering.
A draw looks to have a real good chance here but with 0-0 looking unlikely taking a chance on a 1-1 correct score at 6/1 with William Hill and McBookie could be of interest if you’re looking for something meaty.
Alternatively you could consider Kane Hemmings to score first at 5/1 with Skybet, Paddy Power, Coral and William Hill.
