Hibernian v Ross County Betting Preview
Scottish League Cup Final
Location: Hampden Park
Date: 13th March 2016
Live on BBC Scotland
The spectre of the Scottish League Cup final has seen both sides’ form plummet in the last few weeks.
For Hibs it meant the end of their Championship title ambitions. For County it means their top six ambitions are teetering on the brink.
The real danger for both sides is in defeat, which could see their seasons collapse around them, but it will be the furthest thing from anyone’s mind come three o’clock on Sunday afternoon.
The Staggies have never won a major trophy and before this season hadn’t reached beyond the quarter finals of the League Cup. The closest they have come is a runners up berth in the Scottish Cup and were you to offer the fans the top six or a trophy they would be up the steps at Hampden before you could blink.
For Hibs it is another chance to prove they can go toe to toe with the big boys in the Premiership. Promotion will be their main goal but a fourth League Cup triumph will be a great fillip for the rest of the season.
The Scottish Cup is the one that Hibs really want but at this point that will be far from their thoughts. All that matters now is leaving Hampden on Sunday evening with a trophy and both sides are in with a very good shout of doing that.
Hibs record against Premiership opposition this season is excellent. They have won four of six games and remain unbeaten after drawing with Inverness and Hearts. They have looked every inch a top six Premiership side in all their match ups and certainly have the quality to win.
Henderson, McGinn and Cummings have been amongst the top performers in the country and the addition of Anthony Stokes gives them extra options. It is their defensive make up that is of concern, particularly their goalkeeper who is in the midst of a calamitous period at the moment.
Ross County have keeper troubles of their own with their number one custodian missing out after picking up an injury a few weeks ago. Much like Hibs they have loads of talent going forward in Gardyne, Boyce and Schalk. But defensively, much like Hibs, they are far too likely to concede.
This all points to goals but that must be weighed up against the importance of the affair. Cup finals are notoriously tight and nervy affairs and this particular final has seen both teams score on just two of the last seven occasions.

The bookies originally couldn’t separate them but the market soon set them right and Hibs are now favourites at a best 2.45 (29/20) with McBookie. Ross County are as high as 3.26 (43/19) with Marathon Bet while the draw is available at 3.42 (29/12) with Marathon Bet.
Were it not for the occasion both teams to score would be a stick on at even money with Coral and Betfair and it can still be considered. For +2.5 goals you can get 2.25 (5/4) with Coral but that has happened just once in the last seven finals.
Six of the last seven finals have been a stalemate at half-time and that can be backed at 2.05 (21/20) with bet365 and Betfair. A better option may be to back the half-time correct score of 0-0 at 2.75 (7/4) with Paddy Power with some insurance on the 1-1 scoreline at 8.5 (15/2) with Skybet.
