Hibernian v Queen Of The South Betting Preview
Betfred Scottish League Cup 2nd Round
Location: Easter Road
Date: 9th August 2016
Hibernian are every inch a Premiership side and they have the rest of this season to prove it.
Last season I suggested that Hibs should have chucked the cups early on and concentrated on promotion. There is no doubt that their extended runs in both competitions affected their league form. But good luck finding a Hibee who is remotely bothered.
I am suggesting the same again for this season. In particular the League Cup should be of little consequence. Furthermore, I dare say feelings run along a similiar vein at Easter Road.
A measure of how serious they are is in the knocking back of a £1.5 million fee for Jason Cummings. The striker repaid their faith immediately with both goals in a 1-2 win at Falkirk on Saturday. That was a great way to start their league season and in stark contrast to last year’s campaign.
Their performances over two legs against Brondby was much better than anything Hearts could muster. Brondby went on to knock Hertha Berlin out of the competition in the next round. That in itself exemplifies how well Hibs played.
But Queen Of The South have made a decent start of their own. They were eight minutes from a shock win at Thistle and won their other three group games without conceding a goal. Queens also took an excellent point from Tannadice in the league opener on Saturday.
If Hibs do decide to look the other way in the cup competitions and utilise their squad on Tuesday we might see a wee upset. I certainly don’t see many sides giving Queens a tanking on current form. Even at full strength Hibs would have to work very hard to gain a comfortable victory.
Favourable team news could make Queens a backable proposition.
Hibernian v Queen Of The South Betting Preview Best Betting Odds
Hibernian are favourites at a best 1.5 (1/2) with Paddy Power and William Hill. Queen Of The South are available at 7.5 (13/2) with McBookie and Ladbrokes while bet365 and McBookie are best price for a draw at 4.75 (15/4).
Both teams to score at 1.95 (19/20) with bet365 could be worth considering. It is preferable to the 1.67 (4/6) for +2.5 goals virtually across the board.
Backing Queens with a +1 handicap at 2/1 with bet365 has potential. Particularly if team news is favourable. A +1 Asian Handicap at 2.25 (5/4) with bet365 has stake back insurance should they lose by the odd goal.
But team news will be a key factor in the outcome of this game so it is worth waiting to discover the lie of the land.
