Hibernian v Dundee United Betting Preview
Location: Easter Road
Date: 4th November
There is something of an anomaly in the betting for this Hibernian v Dundee United betting preview.
Whoever comes out on top of this one will have a hard time in the semi-final. Awaiting the victors will be one of three of the top five sides in the country in St Johnstone, Ross County and Celtic.
Before Sunday’s win over Championship rivals Rangers The Hibees were priced as high as 2/1 to win this game. While they exhorted some promise in that match it hardly qualifies for such a dramatic shift in the price.
It should also be remembered that The Tangerines had a hard fought win over Ross County at the weekend too. Even more surprising was the clean sheet that came with it.
This is a tricky game for Alan Stubbs to approach. His team are coming through a thick period of big matches. Before Rangers was Falkirk and Raith Rovers away. After Dundee Utd comes Saint Mirren away.
Outside of Ibrox you couldn’t ask for more difficult games in the Scottish Championship this season. Stubbs has to find a balance between momentum and his undoubted priority, which is promotion.
Mind you Mixu Paatelainen has had a tough introduction himself. With the exception of Hearts he will have faced the Scottish Premiership’s top five and the most in form team in the Championship in his first five games.
Everyone was asking how Big Mixu’s public rollicking of his players would go down. It seems to have had the desired effect if Saturday’s result and subsequent celebrations are anything to go by.
And where do his priorities lie? Again, a bit of momentum would be huge for his under performing side but with a trip to Aberdeen waiting, does he focus on avoiding relegation?
Essentially, though, with both clubs within touching distance of a Hampden semi-final it should be worth going for.
Hibernian v Dundee United Betting Preview Betting Odds
I posited in my Hibernian v Rangers betting preview that the game could be won and lost in midfield. So it turned out as John McGinn turned in a tour de force to win the game.
The same could happen here but I am not convinced the short price on Hibs is deserving.
If you’re confident of Hibs keeping their excellent winning run intact you can back them at a best 2.3(13/10) with McBookie. The Terrors are available at 3.5(5/2) with Totesport and Betfred and that has potential.
In the goalscorer markets it is hard to look past Jason Cummings who has scored in each of his last four games. He likes to step up to the occasion too as seen on Sunday and in the previous round against Aberdeen.
Any potential Hibs win is likely to include a goal from their main attacking threat. At a price of 2.8(9/5) with Paddy Power to score anytime that could be where the value is.
