Hibernian v Brondby Betting Preview
UEFA Europa League 2nd Qualifying Round
Location: Easter Road
Date: 14th July 2016
Hibernian have been given the toughest task of all the Scottish representatives in Europe so far this season.
Brondby had to qualify to get to this stage but they did so be beating Icelandic opposition 10-1 on aggregate. This will be their eleventh game in the Europa League over the past two seasons. They have only lost one of them so far and they include a 9-0 home leg win in the first round last season. Former Celtic striker Teemu Pukki scored three in those two legs as did Polish international squad member, Kamil Wilczek.
That will strike fear into the hearts of Hibs fans whose last European tie was a 0-7 home defeat to Malmo. Those wounds will still be fresh despite it being almost three years hence. There’s every reason to believe that Hibs fans will be happy just to avoid embarrassment this time around.
But it’s not all doom and gloom for The Hibees. Despite finishing third in last season’s second tier they made it to the final of both major cup competitions. They famously won the Scottish Cup and beat most of the top teams in Scotland on the way to those finals.
Neil Lennon has followed Alan Stubbs into the hot seat at Easter Road and he has tons of European experience. Apart from a plethora of experience as a player he also masterminded Celtic’s famous Champions League win over Barcelona while guiding them to the promised land of the last sixteen.
They couldn’t have got a better person to try and negotiate their way into the next round. Lennon has gone straight out and signed more experience in English striker Grant Holt. He may be past his best but he brings knowledge and ability to Easter road.
Hibernian have also impressed in preseason with their recent 4-1 win over Motherwell not to be discounted.
