Hearts should still be reeling from their Europa League exit at the hands of Maltese minnows.
It was a poor result for The Jambos and disappointing for Scottish football. At least it gave Hearts time to focus on the Scottish Premiership opener. But it also means they haven’t played competitively for more than two weeks.
Meanwhile Celtic are off the back of progression in the Champions League. The victory may have been laboured but many questioned whether they would even qualify. As such that makes it a good result regardless.
The defensive crisis has been eased with the appearance of Kolo Toure as a second half substitute. And the imminent signing of Scott Sinclair will give them extra options going forward. Although he is unlikely to play any part on Sunday afternoon.
But with Hearts looking less secure than they did last season Celtic may well take advantage. Even with the team that struggled last season. They already seem to have a little more confidence and resolve under Brendan Rodgers’ tutelage.
That said they will be missing Patrick Roberts who has been their most influential player in the early part of this campaign. Somebody will need to step up to the plate but they have a ready made candidate in Leigh Griffiths.
Scotland’s top goalscorer from last season has three goals already. And he loves a goal at Tynecastle having scored in each of his last two visits here.
