If Aberdeen can beat Hearts on Friday night it might be time for The Dons to believe.
Three points would close the gap to Celtic to just two and with a difficult away trip to Motherwell for the champions there is no guarantee that it would increase on Saturday morning.
There is little that Aberdeen can do about that with what is one of their two most difficult games to face themselves. Hearts will be all out to win it too with fading hopes of a second placed finish not yet put to bed.
The head to head games between the sides have been intriguing already this season. Aberdeen were the only side to win here on league duty before St Johnstone shocked the boards last time out.
After that Hearts came out on top of a pulsating Scottish Cup match that was full of drama even if it did only finish 1-0. In between the Tynecastle fixtures Aberdeen won 1-0 at Pittodrie in another game that illustrates how close this game is likely to be.
The Jambos are likely to be over their gastroenteritis outbreak that forced the postponement of Tuesday night’s fixture with Inverness. If they can perform anything like they did in the first half of their previous game at Celtic Park they will give The Dons plenty to worry about.
The midfield will be a key battleground with Perry Kitchen starting to look the part in the Jam Tarts’ engine room. But in truth their chances could come down to stopping Johnny Hayes, Niall McGinn and Kenny McLean.
Up front Simon Church has become a carbon copy of Adam Rooney before him. They offer little other than sticking the ball in the net when put to them on a plate invariably by one of those three.
Hearts v Aberdeen Betting Preview Best Betting Odds
Aberdeen are favourites and shortening into odds on in many places. Skybet are the best remaining price of 2.1 (11/10). Hearts can be backed at a high of 3.9 (29/10) with Marathon Bet who are also best price for the draw at 3.6 (13/5).
Personally I had little intention of betting on this game but I can’t countenance the notion of Aberdeen being odds on. As such I am going to hang fire and see just how far this drift can go.
There is an element of must win for both sides so both teams to score could have a chance at 1.91 (10/11) with William Hill. The same applies for +2.5 goals at 2.06 (17/16) with Marathon Bet.
