Hamilton v Kilmarnock Predictions And Tips
Location: New Douglas Park
Date: 13th August 2016
We saw the two faces of Hamilton Accies in the last week.
An excellent performance full of commitment and endeavour was on show at Ibrox. Then Morton gave them a footballing lesson on their own turf in the League Cup.
It was a blow for Hamilton who had gained some confidence from the game against Rangers. But familiar deficiencies reared their head again midweek. They have contributed to cup defeats to lower league opposition three times in a row. If they don’t sort it they will be exiting the Scottish Premiership, too.
Accies are incredibly light up front. Their cause hasn’t been helped by the injury to Alex D’Akol at Ibrox. But even having D’Akol as your number one striker should cause concern. Then there is the defensive uncertainty that returned against Morton.
Martin Canning blamed complacency after Hamilton took a 1-0 lead. And, to be fair, they did start the game with a number of first team players on the bench. Most notably Massimo Donati who doesn’t yet look fit enough to last ninety minutes.
That brought the average age of the team right down. Imrie and McKinnon were the only over thirties in the side. This youthful exuberance could be the cause of the inconsistency that I have been banging on about for some time.
But they could dispense with Kilmarnock who would love to be labelled as inconsistent right now. They have been shambolic for much of their early season games. They mounted something of a comeback against Motherwell last weekend but that was an exception.
Josh Magennis has left Killie now, too, and he was their talisman last season. There is a long road ahead for their clutch of new signings to prove they can beat Hamilton to the playoff spot.
