Fola Esch v Aberdeen Betting Preview
Location: Stade Émile Mayrisch
Date: 7th July 2016
Aberdeen will win through this tie but may have a crazy seven minutes of injury time to thank for it.
The sides were level heading into injury time last week and then the fun started. Aberdeen scored what looked to be the winner only to have it chalked off. They scored what looked to be the winner again only for it to be chalked off, again. Then it was actually awarded, before Adam Rooney wrapped things up with a very late penalty.
What was looking like a very difficult tie now looks like The Dons have passage secured. But it would be foolish to ignore Fola Esch completely. They made it very difficult for Aberdeen at times in last weeks tie.
Furthermore they have an excellent home record which has seen them unbeaten since last season’s champions league qualifier against Dinamo Zagreb. That’s fourteen games with thirteen wins and one draw on their results sheet.
Of course that all came against sub standard Luxembourg opposition but it is still an impressive list of results. Any team who can turn their home patch into a fortress will fancy their chance against any opposition, regardless of the quality.
But there is also Aberdeen’s European away performances to take into consideration which, for the most part, have been very good. Derek McInnes has guided them to away wins against Gronigen and Rijeka. Nobody expected those victories, either.
A trip to Kazakhstan to play Kairat Almaty last season was a step too far. To be fair the heat didn’t help matters and Luxembourg is a mere hop, skip and a jump in comparison. Dons fans should expect to see the game through and quite comfortably.
Fola Esch v Aberdeen Betting Preview Best Betting Odds
Marathon Bet have the best price available on Aberdeen at 1.6 (3/5). You can get 5/1 on the home side from McBookie and bet365 amongst others. Ladbrokes and McBookie are best price for the draw at 4.2 (16/5).
While Esch have an excellent home record they have kept no more than five clean sheets in fourteen home games. With a game under their belts Aberdeen should be expected to get on the scoresheet and that should effectively kill off the tie.
But it’s not too much of a stretch to think they may approach the game with an element of caution while trying to protect their two goal lead. Overs backers will get no more than 1.67 (4/6) for +2.5 goals from Boylesports and McBookie. Therefore Marathon Bet’s price of 2.32 (33/25) for under 2.5 goals may draw some interest.
Both teams to score is certainly not out of the question at 1.75 (3/4) with McBookie. An alternative bet of Aberdeen to Win To Nil at 2.8 (9/5) with Boylesports also has reason to tempt. Taking the Correct Score prices on Aberdeen to win 0-1 and 0-2 at 8/1 (McBookie) and 9/1 (888Sport) may be the better option.
