Rangers could end up doing Hibs a big favour by knocking the stuffing out of The Bairns on Friday night.
At this point Falkirk have overtaken Hibs and can go five points clear with a win of their own. Hibs would have three games in hand but as their recent form has shown that is not equivalent to points by any stretch.
Falkirk certainly have the form to suggest second place is within their grasp. They have lost just three of their twenty-nine championship matches and only one of fifteen at home. Even Rangers succumbed to defeat on their last trip here and it wouldn’t be mind shatteringly surprising were it to happen again.
They are missing three important players in McGrandles, Grant and Kerr. Mark Kerr could be a big loss in midfield and it will limit Peter Houston’s options tactically. Conor McGrandles and Grant will play no further part this season and Peter Grant will be a big loss in defence.
There is also the matter of a Rangers resurgence to consider. Ever since they have shorn the shackles of title winning pressure they have begun to look a lot more like the fluent side of the latter part of 2015. They have started covering a handicap again in their last three games helped largely by a defence that has conceded just once in five matches.
Falkirk have performed well against Rangers in the last two meetings but this is another gargantuan task in front of them for Friday night. With The Gers needing just four more wins to wrap up the title and looking like they have rediscovered the best of their form it might be one big push too many.
Falkirk v Rangers Betting Preview Betting Odds
As favourites Rangers are worth considering at 1.6 (3/5) with Marathon Bet and could be good for an accumulator. Falkirk can be backed at 5.9 (49/10) with Marathon Bet while the draw is available at a best 4.3 (33/10) with McBookie.
Both teams to score has a chance at 1.73 (8/11) with bet365 but given Rangers improved defensive resilience I wouldn’t be overly keen. Goals backers will find little interest in +2.5 goals at a best 1.7 (7/10) with Marathon Bet.
You can get just about enough to back Rangers -1 Asian Handicap at 1.97 (28/29) with 888Sport but that is pretty much as low as you should go. Mind that the bet offers stake back insurance should they win the game by a single goal.
